How We Tested The Dog Food Containers

We researched and bought 26 pet food containers for testing in The Lab to put their claims of airtight seals and weatherproof design to the test. Our testers first evaluated the design of the containers, noting features such as wheels, carrying handles, scoops, and material. To test performance, our testers filled each container with food and shook and tipped it over, noting if the top came off and if any food spilled out. If a container claimed to be airtight, our testers submerged the container in water and checked to see if water leaked into the food chamber.

Then, our testers evaluated the durability of each container after putting them through the performance tests based on whether the containers showed signs of damage or wear. Our testers also tested the ease of cleaning each container by dumping out the food and wiping the containers with wet towels. They made note of any difficult portions to clean and whether the opening was large enough for a thorough cleaning. After evaluating and testing each container, we asked our testers to consider the price of the container and rate its overall value.

For containers that we were not able to test in the Lab, we researched the best options, evaluating on a similar basis of performance reviews and material. We also made note of customer reviews and considered the containers’ overall capacity and features to select the best.

DIY Raised Dog Food Storage

Happy Friday everyone! For those of you who dont know, this is Dakota. Shes our sweet, loving, super spoiled furbaby. So spoiled, in fact, that were pretty certain she thinks shes human. Just yesterday morning, I rolled over in bed to find her 6 from my face, asleep on the pillow next to me. Hubby is sleeping on the other side of me in a recliner due to his shoulder surgery, so she apparently decided to take advantage of the extra bed space. For as much as I love her, she has a few quirks that drive me insane! Aside from having a 42 vertical jump to get on the kitchen island, she also loves to spill whats left of her water bowl everywhere. Its her way of announcing that shed like a refill. Such an endearing quality, right?

I decided it was time to build her something that would prevent these messes and also store her dog food. I sketched up some plans and came up with this DIY dog food stand with storage underneath. It keeps her water and food dishes from being tossed around, and I can store a whole bag of dog food in it. I built it to fit a 10 gallon storage tub, so this is definitely a project for big dogs. Be sure to download the for the materials and cut list.

I built the box using 3/4 plywood. It makes for a pretty sturdy box, but I build a lot of projects using 3/4 plywood so Ill be able to use the leftovers much faster than I would with 1/2 plywood.

I wanted this to have a two-tone look, so I painted the box white and then stained the lid.

Platinum Pets Modern Double Diner Feeder

This is a great elevated dog feeder that would be perfect in a minimalist setting. It features a strong, hand-molded wrought iron frame and two powder-coated stainless-steel bowls.

The feeder comes in four different sizes ranging from extra-small to extra-large .

The interesting thing about the sizes is that, unlike other elevated dog feeders, the bowls get larger with each larger stand size. This makes it truly suitable for giant breed dogs.

The bowls are definitely worth mentioning. They come in eighteen different colors – some metallic and some pastel – so you’ll have no problems matching them to your room’s decor.

The bowls also have a silicone ring around the rim, so you don’t have to worry about the metal bowl clamoring against the metal stand. This ring also helps to keep the bowl in place, so it doesn’t move and spin around when your dog is eating.

  • Has rubber pads on each of the four legs.
  • Weight from the wrought iron makes it sturdy.

  • Some bowl colors are susceptible to chipping.
  • If the stand tips over, the bowls will break.
