Purina Pro Plan Focus Sensitive Skin & Stomach Lamb & Rice Formula Review

Many regular shoppers at Tractor Supply are unaware that their stores often stock Purina recipes, in particular Purina Pro Plan recipes. Purina Pro Plan is more often seen at veterinary clinics as many of these clinics partner with Purina.

Purina Pro Plan can be an extremely controversial brand, with some being unhappy with its choice of ingredients and nutritional profiles.

However, what we do know for sure is that Purina Pro Plan recipes are some of the most researched and tested available, which ensures that they are well suited to your cat.

You can learn more about Purinas testing and research in our Purina Pro Plan Brand Review.

The above Focus recipe is one of Purina Pro Plans most popular and aims to alleviate symptoms related to sensitive skin and stomach issues which is an increasingly common issue for domesticated cats.

This recipe utilizes Lamb as its primary ingredient, which is quite rare for commercial cat food as most tend to favor Chicken, Turkey, or fish ingredients. Despite this rarity, it is still a high-quality addition and can provide a large portion of animal-based protein and fat.

While their portion size is small, the recipe also includes some additional animal-based ingredients, including Egg Product, Chicken Meal, and Fish Meal which help to supplement the Lamb content.

How Much Exercise Does A Pitbull Puppy Need A Day

Puppies do need some exercise, but the younger that they are, the less they need. A good way to think of this is that your puppy needs about 5 minutes of exercise for each month in age.

So, if you adopted your puppy at 2 months old, he needs about 10 minutes of exercise a day or if he is 6 months old, he needs about 30 minutes a day. Puppies are growing and need a lot of rest. While they will play hard, they also will burn out quickly and can become exhausted, so dont overdo it with your puppy.

What To Look For In Dog Foods For Dogs With Pancreatitis

4health Grain Free Turkey & Potato Dog Food, 4 lb.

So we know what to avoid when feeding a dog with pancreatitis , but what do dog owners give a dog to help support a healthy digestive system?

Aim for a diet that is high in fiber, high in lean protein, and low in fat.

Foods with fewer ingredients, less processed ingredients, and simple formulas are best.

Look for foods that contain probiotics and digestive enzymes, as well as fish oil, vitamin E , vitamin C, beta carotenes, and methionine.

With a raw diet, still check with your trusted vet if it will do more good than harm. Also, avoid feeding any human food unless it is part of a vet-approved homemade diet.

Mild foods like pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and rice can help a dogs body digest more easily. Other high-fiber foods like carrots, oats, and peas can also help by supporting gut health.

Avoid high-fat foods and treats like red meat, organ meats, fried foods, sugars, or dairy.

Health Dog Food Ingredient Analysis

“we Keep It Real With The Best Dog Food Review”

The 4Health Dog Food uses high-quality meat and fat sources , and most importantly, the fish meal is stated to be ethoxyquin-free. Plus, the formulas do not feature GMO ingredients, fillers, and allergens like soy, corn, and wheat.

All preservatives and flavors are natural, and 4Health Dog Food regularly uses additional health-boosting ingredients like omega fatty acids, vitamins, chelated minerals, antioxidants, dietary fiber, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, and chondroprotectants.

Last but not least, 4Health Dog Food is not made of organic ingredients, and the meat sources are not free-range grown or wild-caught from pristine waters. There are also questions regarding the use of ground race without stating whether it is brown rice or white rice.

However, the brand offers high-quality and well-paired ingredients or, in simple words, proper nutrition with a reasonable price tag.

Health Chicken And Rice Adult Dry Dog Food Review

In this section, we’ll be talking about the Four Health dog food: Chicken and Rice Adult formula option in particular.

First off, let’s start by going over the list of ingredients this dog food has to offer.

Ingredients: Chicken, chicken meal, cracked pearled barley, millet, brewers rice, chicken fat , dried plain beet pulp, natural chicken flavor, flaxseed, fish meal, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, dried chicory root, glucosamine hydrochloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, Yucca schidigera extract, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, chondroitin sulfate, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, niacin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride , vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid

Given that the #1 ingredient on the list of this food is chicken, this is both a good and a “not-so-good” thing.

It’s good because chicken is one of the best sources of protein you can find in dog food products, and it’s not-so-good because raw chicken is made up of around 80% water and loses most of its weight after cooking because the water will be long gone by then.

This food also contains some decent sources of essential fatty acids, such as chicken fat and flaxseed .

Some controversial ingredients are involved, such as:

How Much Water Should A Pitbull Puppy Drink

Pitbull puppies need more water than adult pitbulls, especially when they have recently weaned off of their mothers milk. A younger puppy will need about one-half cup of water every two hours.

Once a puppy is grown larger, he might reduce the amount of water than he drinks, but it still needs to be available during the day. You might want to remove access to water at night as your puppy housetrains. In general, your puppy needs about an ounce of water per pound of body weight every day.

Beware Of Certain Recipes

Just because Tractor Supply carries it doesnt necessarily mean its healthy. We did bump into quite a few Tractor Supply dog food inventory that were not the best dietary choices for your dog. Consider it like being on a junk food diet. It might work for a few days, but long term it can impact health.

Its best to steer clear of ingredients considered fillers, byproducts, artificial flavors, and preservatives. These ingredients can trigger dietary sensitivities and contribute to health issues.

Taste Of The Wild Rocky Mountain Feline Formula Review

Taste of the Wild is another industry staple, and their range of recipes has remained extremely stable over the last decade, in stark contrast to others.

Despite being a modern staple, Taste of the Wild is quite young in comparison to giants like Purina and was only launched back in 2007.

Taste of the Wild fits nicely between pricier premium brands and the cost-effective brands by providing reasonably priced food with satisfactory nutrition and ingredient selection.

If you are interested in learning more about Taste of the Wild, head on over to our Taste of the Wild Brand Review.

Rocky Mountain Formula has been our favorite Taste of the Wild cat food recipe for some time. It packs an impressive minimum of 42% protein and 18% fat which is outstanding for its price point.

The bulk of this protein is from animal-based sources, with the primary ingredient being Chicken Meal.

However, there are also smaller portions of Roasted Venison and Smoked Salmon, which are unusual additions and will give the recipe a unique flavor.

Outside of this unusual mix of meat ingredients, Taste of the Wild utilizes legume and starch ingredients in all of its grain-free recipes, which include ingredients like Peas, Sweet Potatoes, and White Potatoes.

This mix of legumes and starches provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates, plant-based protein, and fiber.
