Who Makes Call Of The Wild Dog Food

What Dog Food Is Killing Dogs

Call of the Wild Survival Tips! | Disney Channel

A pet food recall is widening after the Food and Drug Administration announced that more than two dozen dogs died after eating Sportmix brand dry kibble. The statement issued on Monday said that the suspect is aflatoxin, a byproduct of a corn mold Aspergillus flavus, which at high levels can kill pets.

Taste Of The Wild Dog Food Recall History

Taste of the Wild was part of the Diamond Pet Food recall of 2012. This was a voluntary recall resulting from the potential contamination from Salmonella bacteria. A class action lawsuit was settled in 2014, providing monetary compensation for animals that became ill or died due to the contamination. You can read more about the lawsuit on Top Class Actions.

There have been no recalls of Taste of the Wild since 2012. To date, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that one food recall is more likely to lead to another.

Unfortunately, recalls are a natural byproduct of the food manufacturing and distribution system. Diamond Pet Food, like most high-quality dog-food manufacturers did what they could to remedy the problem, and has had a great recall track record since 2012. We will update this post if additional recalls occur.

Additional Ingredients Of Interest

Aside from the top five ingredients, there are several other notable ingredients found in Taste of the Wild High Prairie Canine Formula with Roasted Bison & Roasted Venison Formula. Some of these ingredients include: canola oil, egg product, roasted bison, roasted venison, tomato pomace, potato protein, pea protein, ocean fish meal, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Canola oil is extracted from the rape seed plant and it is a source of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Oils like canola oil are an important part of a balanced diet for dogs because they are a highly concentrated source of energy.

Eggs are loaded with protein and good for dogs. Egg product, according to AAFCO, means: Product obtained from egg graders, egg breakers, and/or hatchery operations that is dehydrated, handled as liquid or frozen. These shall be labeled as per USDA regulations governing eggs and egg products . This product shall be free of shells or other non-egg materials except in such amounts which might occur unavoidably in good processing practices, and contain a maximum ash content of 6% on a dry matter basis. There is no specific AAFCO definition for eggs, so in this case egg product seems to be fine to use.

Finally, Taste of the Wild uses chelated minerals. Chelated minerals are better than just adding minerals to a food. With chelated minerals the minerals become attached to the proteins for better absorption in the digestive tract.

Taste Of The Wild Appalachian Valley Formula

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY

Heres an ideal recipe for small breed dogs that lies not only in small kibble pieces that are easier to chew but also in the delicious and healthy meals it provides.

The Appalachian Valley bags are often picked up by pet owners for their large breed puppies, not only smaller breeds. Pups are sure to be satisfied with the taste which venison, ocean fish, duck and lamb meals contribute to. The high protein content is also achieved by including garbanzo beans and egg.

The said beans also have a positive effect on digestive health and provide minerals. Additional fiber comes from dried chicory root that also activates the probiotic bacteria. The probiotics are added to make sure the food comes with live cultures, about 80 million in each pound.

Canola oil is mostly responsible for the fat content in this Taste of the Wild small breed recipe and makes up about 18%. Moisture is kept at about 10%, which is a good number for dry food.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Crude protein: no less than 32%
  • Crude fat: no less than 18%
  • Moisture: no more than 10%

It didnt feel like a transition, because Diamond Pet Foods was all he had ever known, he said.

In 2020, Diamond Pet Foods was the No. 5 pet food company in the world, with $1.5 billion in annual revenue, according to data provided by Pet Food Industry. Theres no doubt that Taste of the Wild has been an important factor in that success.

What The Labelling Really Says

Taste of the Wild dog food has an emphasis on a primitive canine diet, and the high protein and fat content is testament to that. Based on the guaranteed analysis we can guesstimate around 30% carbs which is great to see for a dry dog food. Taste of the Wild really stands out compared to many other dog foods, especially against those you find in the supermarkets which are much less protein, much less fat, and much higher carbs .

We find three meat ingredients at the top of the list, a combo of bison, lamb meal, and chicken meal. This packs a punch, but were also told bison is 12% of the product. Its possible the first six ingredients are also 12%, making the food 24% potato , and 12% peas.

In addition to the top three meats we also find beef, venison, eggs, and fish meal, so this should really push the animal constituents in the food to above 50%. Thats really good.

The main carb source in the food is sweet potatoes, an excellent low GI option and a better alternative to many grains or even potatoes.

As a whole the ingredients feel balanced and there arent any nasties. Its preserved naturally rather than with chemicals. All in all it really stacks up as a good formula with high protein, high fat, low carbs. Recommended.

Taste Of The Wild Class Action Says Dog Food Contains Pesticides Metals

A concerned pet owner recently filed a class action lawsuit against the maker of Taste of the Wild dog food claiming that the products are contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, and other harmful chemicals.

Plaintiff Martin Grossman is suing defendant Diamond Pet Foods Inc. over allegations that the companys Taste of the Wild products are contaminated with harmful chemicals including pesticides.

Diamond Pet Foods manufactures and distributes Taste of the Wild products, marketing the dog food as formulated based on your pets ancestral diet.

The company further supports the quality of their products by stating: Every ingredient is carefully selected from trusted sources, each recipe is designed by our veterinarians and nutritionists to meet specific nutritional requirements and every product is tested for quality and safety before leaving our facilities.

Despite claims of natural ingredients and high quality nutrition, Taste of the Wild dog food may not be as incredible as marketing suggests. Grossman alleges that Diamond Pet Food products contain a series of undesirable contaminates which can cause harm to animals.

Through testing of Taste of the Wild, Grossman says he discovered the dog food contains heavy metals including arsenic, lead, mercury, and cadmium, as well as pesticides, acrylamide, and BPA.
