How often should I feed my dog?

  • Puppies should be fed 4 meals a day, bringing this down to 3 meals a day at the age of 4 months until your pup is 6 months. It is important that the puppy is fed a diet designed for its age and breed size. There are diets specifically designed for puppies and young dogs which will ensure the growing dog receives the nutrition required for healthy growth and bone development. Browse our puppy food here.

Feeding Tips:

How much should I feed my dog?

Choose a high-quality dog food like our grain-free Canine Choiceand look at the recommendations on the label. Most high-quality dog foods recommend approximately 1-1/2 cups per 10kg of body weight per day for smaller breeds, since they require 15-25% more calories per pound than larger breeds. Large and giant breeds are more often fed 1 cup per 10kg.

You must also consider the following, and adjust the food amount accordingly:

  • Actual calorie content of the food, current weight and projected target weight if necessary

  • The activity level of your dog, low/moderate etc

  • Other environmental variables

  • Any additional calories from treats or table foods

  • Does the amount to be fed in the feeding guidelines pertain to each meal or the daily amount?

Can Dogs Eat Peppers

Bell peppers are okay to feed dogs. Dogs are carnivores and prefer meat to vegetables, but there are some benefits to veggies. For example, green peppers are a low-calorie snack packed with vitamin C and beta-carotene.

Be sure to chop peppers into small pieces because the outer skin can be tough and difficult to chew. Pureeing or steaming the peppers makes them easier to consume and digest. As with most human food, dont overdo it because too much could lead to sickness. Never give your dog a spicy variety such as jalapeños or hot peppers.

What Nutrition Do Dogs Need

Dogs are carnivorous, meaning the primary component of their diet should be meat. But they arent obligate carnivoresor only meat-eating. In the wild, dogs survive mainly off of prey animals and some seasonal vegetables. Wild dogs will also occasionally eat fruits. When youre deciding on your dogs diet, it should primarily revolve around these food items.

Real meat is the best food for your dog…. nothing else even comes close….. but not just “muscle” meat …. your dog also needs organ meat and bone.

As one dog lover to another, I think you’ll agree with me when I say: It’s really hard to look at all the dog foods out there today and know for sure that you’ve found the best one for your dog.

Or is it? It turns out you can dramatically increase your dog’s chances of living a long, healthy life by making one simple choice. In this post, I’m going to tell you what that choice is… and exactly how to get your dog started on the path to a l-o-o-o-n-g, healthy life.

Cutting right to the chase, the best food for your dog is….

Real food. Real chicken, turkey, beef, bison, venison, lamb, fish. Carrots, broccoli, zucchini, pumpkin, apples. Eggs, cottage cheese, plain yogurt.

No, this is not “people food” or “table scraps.” Real meat, real veggies, real eggs, etc. are fresh, wholesome, nutritious foods. All living creatures deserve real food.

Now understand, when I say real food, I’m NOT talking about deli foods like bologna, sliced turkey, or processed cheese. No hot dogs or bacon, or macaroni and cheese. No french fries, pizza, or spicy tacos. That kind of “people food” is terrible for dogs. And honestly, we all know that most of that stuff isn’t particularly good for us either!

Is Cbd Safe For Dogs

CBD may be a natural way to treat anxiety, pain, skin conditions, neurological disorders, and more. But is it effective and safe for dogs?

From the limited veterinary research performed so far, reports show that CBD is safe and effective for managing arthritis in many dogs. More research needs to be done to evaluate how CBD could help with other conditions in dogs, such as seizures.

Be sure to choose a high-quality product from a reputable manufacturer. Many companies are joining the CBD hype, so the CBD product at the best price may not be the safest for your pup. Do your research before you get started.

Also, your vet understands your dogs unique needs better than you or the company selling the products, so be sure to check with them before administering. Be aware, though, that your vet is not legally allowed to recommend CBD treatment for your dog.

The six basic nutrients are water, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. These essential nutrients are required as part of the dogs regular diet and are involved in all of the basic functions of the body. The minimum dietary requirement has been established for many nutrients. The maximum tolerable amounts of some nutrients are known, and results of toxicity have been established. What is less understood is what may happen over time with marginal deficiencies or excesses.

Nutritional guidelines have been developed by the Association of American Feed Control Officials . AAFCO guidelines are the general basis for the nutritional content of commercial pet foods. Make sure that your dogs food meets the AAFCO standards. Keep in mind that these are guidelines and your dog may need more or less depending on his health status.
