Recalls On Blue Buffalo Dog Food

Blue Buffalo Recalls Dog Food That Could Sicken Pets

Blue Buffalo issues dog food recall

A pet food company is recalling one of its products over fears that it could be harmful to your dog’s health.

Blue Buffalo issued a voluntary recall for its Blue Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Wet Food for Adult Dogs, which the company said could contain elevated levels of beef thyroid hormones.

Dogs that ingest high levels of these hormones may exhibit symptoms such as: increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness. Prolonged consumption could cause these symptoms to increase in severity and may include vomiting, diarrhea and rapid or difficulty breathing. According to the company, the symptoms may resolve when the use of the impacted food is discontinued.

The FDA said a consumer reported symptoms in one dog, who has fully recovered. After an investigation, Blue Buffalo issued a recall for the one production lot in question. The production lot that is being recalled has UPC Code “840243101153” and a Best Buy Date of “June 7, 2019,” which is found on the bottom of the can.

The affected products were distributed nationally through pet specialty and online retailers.

If your dog has consumed the product listed above and exhibited any symptoms, Blue Buffalo says you should discontinue feeding and contact your veterinarian. Anyone who has purchased the recalled product should dispose of it or return to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Ridley Block Operations Announces Voluntary Recall Of Ultralyx 24% + 3% Mag Composite

Ridley Block Operations has initiated a voluntary recall of a single batch of its beef cattle feed product, Ultralyx 24% + 3% Mag Composite Block, because it contains elevated levels of non-protein nitrogen that may be harmful to beef cattle.

A farm located in Virginia reported that nine of its beef cows died after having access to the subject batch of cattle feed.

The entire batch of beef cattle feed subject to this recall was purchased by a single distributor in Tennessee who resold the product to farm supply dealers located in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and North Carolina. The cattle feed subject to this recall can be identified by its label, which describes the product as Ultralyx Nutritional Supplements 24% + 3% Mag Composite Block for Beef Cattle on Pasture and includes, in the lower right corner, the batch number HB01088454 and item number 10636. The subject batch was manufactured on August 26, 2016, and packaged in 200-pound plastic tubs.

Samples from the subject batch were assayed following a customer complaint and found to contain elevated levels of NPN. Tubs associated with this batch contain a quantity of the feed ingredient urea, a nutritional source of NPN, that exceeded formulated specifications.

Blue Buffalo is the new brand on the block, elbowing its way through the other big players of the dog food industry.

The brand had its ups and downs, but it has gone a long way from its humble beginnings. It now leads on the front lines of the premium ingredient, reduced grains pet food movement.

Blue Buffalos past is a bit sketchy. It had quite many recalls for its young age. The diet was also associated with Dilated Cardiomyopathy in the past. I would caution its users to keep a careful eye on their dog and to stick to regular vet appointments.

Handing its keys to General Mills Inc. has seen improved quality control. We also hope that this handover will provide the brand with a better environmental policy.

Blue Wilderness Rocky Mountain Dog Food Recall Alert

Lets jump in and take a look at Blue Buffalos dog foods by age. There are multiple formulas, largely based on life stage, and also based on breed size. Their antioxidant-rich life protection line and a limited ingredient line are two of their most popular food lines.

Their Wilderness line is usually the most popular. All their food has Lifesource Bits, which are dark kibbles with a blend of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. The kibbles are cold-formed to retain the potency of their ingredients. Fruit and vegetables are some of the whole source ingredients in these bits.

Blue Buffalos Environmental Policy

In its early days, Blue Buffalo Pet Products Inc. didnt seem to be concerned with developing any environmental policy.

Their focus was on producing food with premium quality ingredients.

Their refusal to incorporate animal by-product meals and specific cereals and legumes in their diets do not hold up scientifically and cause food chain inefficiency which impacts the environment adversely.

This gives rise to a number of problems stemming from sourcing of sustainable ingredients to contributing to reduced food efficiency in the food chain.

However, Blue Buffalo is now the property of General Mills. Fortunately, General Mills Inc. has a better environmental policy than the original company and seems to be genuinely seeking to find ways to reduce the environmental cost of all their production.

General Mills acknowledges that climate change is a threat to their business and to the world at large, by making the agricultural food producing system more fragile .

General Mills have committed themselves to:

  • reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 28% by 2025.
  • moving to zero waste-to-landfill at 100% of its facilities by 2025.
  • sustainably sourcing 100% of their 10 key ingredients.
  • support sustainable agricultural practices.
  • reduce food waste.

General Mills are also considering switching from plastic to fiber packaging as part of their future projects. Only time will tell if this change of ownership will make Blue Buffalo a more environmentally considerate product.

Blue Buffalo Brands History

The history of Blue Buffalo began with the Bishop family and their dog named Blue. The dog was diagnosed with cancer.

Mainly because of this, the Bishops began to study the commercial dog foods available on the market. They soon noticed the deficiencies and began to explore the link between diet and health.

From then, their main goal became to produce the healthiest and most nutritious dog food possible. They also enlisted the help of veterinarians and animal nutrition experts.

Blue Buffalo was founded in 2003, so it is a relatively new brand in the pet foods market. The company got its name from Blue, the dog, and the buffalo animal. The latter symbolized freedom and nature for the Bishops.

Blue Buffalo soon became popular in the market, thanks to its recipes to meet special dietary needs. Unfortunately, the companys reputation also comes with some negatives. Among the competitors, Purina accused Blue Buffalo of false advertising.

Purina said the vitamin and mineral blend called LifeSource Bits, developed by Blue does not provide adequate micronutrients for dogs. Animal by-products and grains have reportedly been found on several occasions in Blue Buffalo products that should not have contained these ingredients in principle.

The popularity of Blue Buffalo was not helped because its products were mentioned several times in an FDA investigation looking for links between diet and Dilated Cardiomyopathy. .

Fda Recalls Pet Food After At Least 28 Dogs Die 8 Sickened

01-02-2021

Several pet food products have been recalled after 28 dogs died, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced. Three brands of Sportmix products for dogs and cats, made by Midwestern Pet Foods, may contain potentially fatal levels of the toxin aflatoxin, the FDA said in a news release.

As of Wednesday, the FDA said it is aware of at least 28 deaths and eight illnesses in dogs that consumed the pet food.

Multiple samples of the food were tested by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. It found very high levels of aflatoxin, which is produced by a mold that can grow on corn and other grains used in pet food, according to the FDA.

Midwestern Pet Foods is recalling nine lots of Sportmix products, the FDA said. The FDA and Missouri Department of Agriculture are determining if any others need to be recalled. The lot code, which begins with the letters Exp, is on the back of the bag.

As of Wednesday, the recalled products are:

Blue Buffalo Basics Limited Ingredient Grain

RECALL: Blue Buffalo Dog Food

A limited ingredient diet is usually bought for dogs with sensitive stomachs or allergies. Customer reviews also show that this formula meets the above-mentioned expectations very well. Also, the taste is delicious many dogs like it. 87% of the reviews are 5 stars, which is quite impressive.

This Kibble Was A Game Changer!

  • I have an Akita puppy. I was feeding him Blue Buffalo Large Breed Chicken & Rice Puppy Food. After several weeks, he developed chronic loose stools. I switched him to this kibble, and within one day he was normal, and has remained normal. My vet explained that large breed puppy foods are essentially adult dog food because they want to slow the growth, so large breed formulas dont have as much protein as regular puppy food. That meant that switching to an adult dog food would not be a problem for my large breed puppy. And he really like this new kibble more than he liked the large breed formula.

Great product, great service!

  • My Corgi dog has a sensitive stomach and now eating Blue Buffalo Basics has solved his digestive issues. He also loves it along with a few bites of the canned same recipe. Highly recommend!

Appears to do the trick

Food review

  • I have a dog with severe allergies and I switched to Blue Buffalo and hes doing great and loves the food.

There are not many complaints about this product. Some owners dogs dont like the taste, and some canines have caused digestive problems. Fortunately, such negative reviews are quite rare.

Is Blue Basics A Good Dog Food

Blue Basics dog food recipes are of excellent quality. I like that the recipes contain a limited amount of ingredients, making them suitable for dogs with sensitive stomachs. In addition to real meats, meat meals are also found in these products, which somewhat spoils the overall picture. Dog Food Advisor has given a 3-star rating to Blue Basics products. I give it a strong 4 star for this line.
