Snacks To Pair With Home Cooked Dog Food
- Peanut butter: Rascal has his own dedicated jar of peanut butter. He loves a traditional kong but you can also mold and freeze peanut butter in any shape for a quick frozen treat. When the jar is almost finished I break out my peanut butter spoon.
- Greek Yogurt Ice Cream: In the summer we blend up unflavored Greek yogurt, fresh berries, and peanut butter. Place a spoonful or two into a silicone cupcake pan and freeze for a few hours. These make for a great dog ice cream.
- Dehydrated Sweet Potatoes: Rascals favorite easy treat. We love bringing these over to family and friends houses so Rascal always has a healthy treat on hand.

Add Corn To Turkey Dog Food Recipe
Place a small to medium pot on the stove and fill it with no more than 1 or 2 inches of water. Bring the water to a rolling boil. Its important not to put enough water in the pot to completely cover the corn. Add the frozen loose corn. Let the corn cook until tender and heated thru. Never give a dog a corn cob – it can become a choking hazard.

How To Prepare Homemade Food For Dogs
When preparing a diet at home for your dog, it is essential that you follow a recipe that is complete and balanced. Once you and your vet have chosen an appropriate recipe, its time to get started.
Many owners choose to prepare food in bulk and refrigerate or freeze it in pre-portioned containers. This is a great idea to save time and money, but you might want to begin by making smaller quantities so you can see how your dog does on the diet.

I never thought I would be one of those dog owners who made homemade human food for their pups. Not in a million years.
But when Butters recently fell sick with an upset stomach, our vet advised us to feed him a bland diet chicken and rice without any kind of seasoning. So thats what we did we poached a chicken, shredded it in a food processor, and mixed in some white rice and fed him this bland diet for 3 days.
Thats when I started to do some research on homemade dog food, and I have been so amazed as to how many different kinds of vegetables dogs can have. And with the help of Balance IT, you can create so many different recipes for your pup!
Now the best part about making homemade dog food just like making anything at home is that you know exactly what is going into the dog bowl, and not any of that questionable gelatinous gunk from the canned food.

Now this recipe here has a balance of 50% protein, 25% veggies and 25% grains, but the ratios can easily be adjusted to suit your pups breed and/or needs.

Homemade Instant Pot Dog Food

This Homemade Instant Pot Dog Food recipe is easy to make with ground turkey, chicken or ground beef, rice and vegetables in the pressure cooker. You can easily customize this basic homemade dog food recipe to suit your dog’s tastes!
We have been making our own dog food for a long time. My Instant Pot dog food recipe is super easy, and our two fur babies absolutely love it!
We have always used high quality kibble, but one picky eater started turning her nose up at her usual food. So, I started adding cooked chicken breasts to supplement the kibble.
Our other dog developed food allergies, and it was getting harder to find a commercial dog food with minimal ingredients to suit his needs.
With our vet’s approval, I started making homemade food using ground turkey as the base. We also add rice and vegetables.
It’s best to always introduce new food gradually. I started giving the dogs a little bit of the homemade food. Gradually, we increased the amount and reduced the amount of dry food.
Note, that you can use this Instant Pot recipe as a supplement to your dog’s food as is. You will have to add vitamins, calcium and other necessary nutrients to ensure your dog is getting the nutrition he needs in lieu of using commercial dog food.
As always, speak with your veterinarian before changing your dog’s food.
Can Dogs Eat Ground Turkey
If you want your dogs to enjoy turkey, cooked ground turkey is a great option. It is higher in protein than chicken and lower in fat. When preparing ground turkey for your dogs, it must be cooked plain. You may enjoy seasoned turkey with onions, but that’s not an option for dog food.
Turkey bones are not advisable. They can splinter and be damaging to your dog. Turkey skin is another part that should not be fed to dogs as it is very high in fat.
Always check with your veterinarian before introducing any new foods into your dogs diet.

Ground Turkey Eggs & Spinach Dog Food Recipe
Commercial food is such a controversial topic at the moment. Should you feed kibbles, raw or grain free dog food? I don’t really have the answer but in my kitchen, whole food is always good and this applies to dogs food as well.
This recipe yields about 4-5 cups of food so it’s good for small to medium size pet owners. For adventurous dog owners, you can substitute ground turkey with any type of meat. Ground turkey breast or chicken breast will reduce the fat content.
I found that spinach is easy to work with and my dog loves it. However, chopped broccoli is also good. Zucchini, pumpkin, butternut squash or acorn squash are all good alternatives. Parsley is optional but many claimed that it has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. I personally like the smell of it. You can find many dog chews contain parsley for taming stinky mouth.
So here is a 5-ingredients dog food recipe for you to try. My dog loves it and I hope your dog will love it too.
How To Store Homemade Dog Food
Once your batch is finished let it cool completely before serving and storing. I use an airtight container to store my batch in the refrigerator. I also freeze some of it in freezer bags by dividing them into single servings. When you are ready to serve, you can defrost it in your refrigerator and then warm it up in the microwave. Make sure it is cooled before serving it. I do add a little kibble with the homemade food since we are adjusting to the new food.

At The End Of 2019 During Our Yearly Vet Check We Received The Horrible News That Our Dog Was In Stage 4 Kidney Failure
Honestly, I was in total shock, how did we miss this?! He is with me all day, every day!! He just seemed like he was dealing with some symptoms of old age frequent urination, sometimes excessive water drinking, and I would notice occasionally that he would have a mild case of diarrhea. It definitely didnt feel like life threatening symptoms to us! As much as the diagnosis was a shock, the price tag of the prescription diet that we were told he would need to eat for the remainder of his life was pretty horrifying too! When I asked our vet how long we had left with him the prognosis wasn’t good, 3-6 months maybe 9 if we were lucky. We had to wait 6 weeks for a follow up blood panel to really know what kind of timeline we were looking at.
