Which Types Of Dogs May Do Better With A Different Brand

Taste of the Wild: Ancient Grains Dog food review

If your dog eats grain-inclusive foods, Taste of the Wild doesnt have the best selection on offer as most of their foods are grain-free. As per Taste of the Wilds website, there are only four grain-inclusive options on offer. Also, Taste of the Wilds protein options may be a little too exotic for picky dogs or those that prefer more standard recipes.

Taste of the Wild offers some of its adult formulas as suitable for senior dogs, but please speak to your vet about this, as some senior dogs need specialized diets. The same goes for if your dog has a health issue that may require a special diet. For example, for dogs with sensitive stomachs, you may want to check out Hills Sciences Sensitive Stomach & Skin recipe.

Hills Science offers a variety of recipes for different types of dogs, like size-specific formulas and formulas targeting different areas of health, like digestive issues, weight control, and mobility.

Taste Of The Wild Dog Food Review

The wet dog food range of Taste of the Wild is limited to a grain-free lineup consisting of five recipes in a gravy mixture. Each of these recipes start off with real meat followed by nutritious ingredients such as tomatoes, raspberries, and blueberries for antioxidant support.

Since there are no grains, fuel source alternatives such as peas, sweet potatoes, potatoes, and/or chickpea flour are used instead.

Prebiotics have been added to help pups maintain healthy guts by feeding the friendly bacteria in the digestive system. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are also included, along with numerous added vitamins and minerals.

Aside from being grain-free, these wet foods do not contain any corn, filler, wheat, nor any artificial preservative, flavor, or color.

How To Redeem This Offer

While beef and lamb may be staples in dog foods, the addition of wild boar provides the meal with a richer and nuttier taste courtesy of its distinct, dark red meat. These trio of meats combine to give each meal a total of 9% crude protein.

Beef and vegetable broth provide much of the moisture content, which is set at a maximum percentage of 82%.

Chickpea flour provides plant protein as well as fiber to the mix . The sunflower oil, as well as other oils in the ingredients list, contribute to a healthy fat content .

Each 13.2 ounce can contains 378 kcal.

Four Care Tips For Diabetic Dogs

Remember, knowing what dry dog food is best for diabetic dogs and changing your dogs diet isnt the only way to deal with diabetes. There are a few more things you can do to ensure that your pooch stays happy and healthy.

  • Feed your dog on a regular schedule: In addition to finding good food for a diabetic dog, it is important that you feed your pooch at the same time every day. Most diabetic dogs require two meals per day but talk with your vet to come up with an ideal schedule for you and your pooch. By sticking to a schedule you will ensure that your dogs blood sugar levels remain stable, and you can opt to feed him right before his insulin shot.
  • Include regular exercise: Diabetic dogs can easily become overweight, so regular exercise can help a lot in keeping your pooch fit. Try to stick to the schedule and plan for walks or games of fetch that you can include in your regular routine. However, keep the activities light, since overexertion can cause blood sugar levels to drop suddenly.
  • Dont switch foods unnecessarily: Try to avoid making any significant changes in your dogs diet, since this can cause glucose levels to fluctuate abnormally. If you think that your diabetic dog can benefit from a change in diet talk with your vet first so you can come up with a proper plan together.

Your dogs diet is imperative to a healthy and happy life. And if your pooch loves a particular brand, you want to know everything about it from its ingredients to recipes and more. In my article today, we look at the Taste of the Wild dog food recall in detail.

A somewhat new dog food brand, Taste of the Wild was introduced to the pet food market about 2007. The brand aimed at meeting the increased need for high-quality natural dog foods in the market as well as grain-free diets with healthy ingredients.

Taste of the Wild is produced and marketed by Diamond Pet Foods, a family-owned firm that was established in 1970 by Schell and Kampeter. The two were brothers-in-law with a common vision and bought a former milling company.

The companys headquarters are located in Meta, Missouri, and has facilities in Gaston, Lathrop, and the newest one is in Ripon. Their dog food is highly recommended by many reviewers. Most of them commended the brand for using an adequate amount of named meats as the source of animal-based protein.

Like many great and reliable dog food brands, however, it is not without its downfalls. From dog food recalls to lawsuits, you will find our article today informative and very helpful.

Has The Taste Of The Wild Dog Food Ever Been Recalled

Although most dog owners highly recommend the Taste of the Wild dog food brand, their major concern is on Diamond Pet Food due to its recall history. That being said, Taste of the Wild has only been recalled once in 2012 due to possible salmonella contamination. A Food and Drug Administration report dated May 5, 2012, pulled all the brands dog foods with several specifications that we shall give in detail at the recall history section below.

The Taste Of The Wild Company

A family-owned company, Taste of the Wild is under the Diamond Pet Foods umbrella producing pet food for dogs and cats. The entire product line was inspired by the protein-rich diet of our pets wild counterparts: wolves and lions.

Each Taste of the Wild recipe is intended to provide the complete nutrition our pet needs in the way that nature intended always real meat first. And not just any protein.

The brand uses lots of unique meat in its formulas such as smoked salmon, venison, bison, and wild boar for a tasty alternative to the usual dog food standard fare.

Currently, the brand offers wet and dry dog foods in Grain-Free, Ancient Grains, and Limited Ingredient formulations.

    Examined: Taste Of The Wild

Whoever came up with the name for the company deserves all the credit in the world, because its catchy as it is relevant, in terms of their marketing strategy. Which is: No one knows what dogs should eat, better than nature i.e. their own DNA.

Packaging: You can see it, and feel it, in their packaging. A bear catching salmon in a furious pacific stream, with wolves around watching. Or the wolves themselves eyeing a herd of buffalo, a fox watching two deer lock horns. This brand really does bring the wild sensation to your dogs food bowl.

So: They took on the challenge of creating a dog food as nature intended, but did they succeed?

Ahead: Well review Taste of the Wilds history, manufacturing practices, safety and quality controls, where and how its made, how its rated, recalls issued, and more.

Taste Of The Wild Dog Food Heart Disease

Taste of the Wild dog food is also featured in the US Food and Drug Administration June 2019 investigation on sixteen pet food brands that are under scrutiny for heart disease. The dog food was fed to pets that developed dilated cardiomyopathy from 2014 to 2019. We found this information in a CBS News Article here.

Most of these incidents are found in large dogs but this time the case was different as even small dogs were affected as well. The major culprits of heart disease were caused by grain-free dog foods. Taste of the Wild has 10.1% of the total 524 DCM cases. With a few answers from the FDA as of now, there has been no recalls on any of the featured brands. However, the most irritating response they gave regarding the issue is that it is a complex scientific issue that may involve multiple factors.

Speaking to the VIN News Service, a Diamond Pet Food company spokesperson said that Taste of the Wild is linked to causing DCM in 53 pets only. The company has, however, sold about 29 million bags of the brand. She believes there are more unanswered queries regarding the inquiry.
