Which Dog Food Has Been Recalled

What You Should Do If You Have Fed Your Dog With Recalled Dog Food

Massive Pet Food Recall

If you buy and start feeding your dog with food that you later discover has a recall, you should stop further feeding of the diet. After that, discard whatever remaining food you have but keep a small portion of it in case you will need to take it for further testing. Start to make gradual diet changes for your dog but feed it with a mixture of rice and half a hamburger for two days at the most.

From there, start mixing more substantial amounts of food of a new food product for a week or two until you are sure that the dog adapts well to the fresh food. To be on the safe side, you can add plain pumpkin to the mix for easy digestion of the new diet. Call the manufacturer for a refund of your money or a replacement for the meal.

What Happens When A Product Is Recalled

FDA Pet Food Recall as 28 Dogs Die

If your dogs food has been recalled, the first thing to do is stop feeding them the food immediately.

Even if your dog hasnt experienced any negative effects related to the recall, its always better to be safe than sorry. At the very least, you want to take the time to read the report and find out whether your dog is at risk before you take the next steps.

The recall report will tell you not only which brand and which recipe is affected, but it should also provide specific information about the lot number and UPC codes for the recalled products. Even if the package of food youve been feeding your dog isnt included, you may want to stop feeding and check with your veterinarian just to be safe. If your dog has become ill, youll also want to file a report with the FDA.

As long as your dog hasnt gotten sick and youve stopped feeding the recalled product, theres nothing else you need to do. You have the option, however, to return the food to the store where you purchased it to obtain a refund or replacement.

From there, safely dispose of the food in a manner that prevents other animals from eating it. You may also want to sign up to receive FDA recall alerts.

Pet food recalled over health risk

Over a dozen different pet foods have been recalled after the FDA says they may contain fatal levels of Aflatoxins. The recall has been expanding over the year, and health officials say the deaths are significant.

ATLANTA – We know how much you love your pets. We saw your pictures on social media for National Dog Day. So its important to pass along the latest pet food recalls. The FDA says there are more than 130 pet deaths and more than 220 illnesses.

Midwestern Pet Food, the FDA reports, has been “associated with the illness or death of hundreds of pets.” The dog food maker voluntary recalled nearly two dozen products last December. A month later it was expanded.

The foods, say the FDA, contain potentially fatal levels of aflatoxins. Here are symptoms to look out for in your pet: sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Also be aware of any yellowing of the eyes or gums from jaundice caused by liver damage.

This is not just dog food, but cat and fish foods, too.

If your pet has eaten any of the pulled foods, which are only associated with their Oklahoma facility, talk to your vet in case there is liver damage that you cant see.
