Taste Of The Wild Wet Foods

Taste of the Wild Dog Food Review

Unfortunately, Taste of the Wild is not very strong in this area either. The recipes offered by the company are grain-free and of high quality. However, there is not too much choice. There are 5 wet Taste of the Wild products to choose from, not all available at all retailers.

For this reason, Merrick is the winner in this regard.

Where Are The Ingredients And Where Is Taste Of The Wild Made

Showing 1 Answer

  • Taste of the Wild dog and cat foods are made in five state-of-the-art facilities in the USA: two in California and one each in Missouri, Arkansas and South Carolina. They use some ingredients that are not USA sourced, lamb and venison from New Zealand, lamb meal from Australia, buffalo from India, s…morealmon from Norway and South America, salmon meal from South America, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to our formulations that can only be sourced out of China. Taste of the Wild is to either include these ingredients or manufacture our foods without them, which would not be in the best interest of your pet, in their view.

Additional Ingredients Of Interest

Aside from the top five ingredients, there are several other notable ingredients found in Taste of the Wild High Prairie Canine Formula with Roasted Bison & Roasted Venison Formula. Some of these ingredients include: canola oil, egg product, roasted bison, roasted venison, tomato pomace, potato protein, pea protein, ocean fish meal, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Canola oil is extracted from the rape seed plant and it is a source of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Oils like canola oil are an important part of a balanced diet for dogs because they are a highly concentrated source of energy.

Eggs are loaded with protein and good for dogs. Egg product, according to AAFCO, means: Product obtained from egg graders, egg breakers, and/or hatchery operations that is dehydrated, handled as liquid or frozen. These shall be labeled as per USDA regulations governing eggs and egg products . This product shall be free of shells or other non-egg materials except in such amounts which might occur unavoidably in good processing practices, and contain a maximum ash content of 6% on a dry matter basis. There is no specific AAFCO definition for eggs, so in this case egg product seems to be fine to use.

Finally, Taste of the Wild uses chelated minerals. Chelated minerals are better than just adding minerals to a food. With chelated minerals the minerals become attached to the proteins for better absorption in the digestive tract.

More About Taste Of The Wild

Taste of the Wild Wetlands Canine Canned Dog Food roasted ...

Taste of the Wild is owned by a huge American pet food company called Diamond Pet Food. This company has been in business since 1970, but Taste of the Wild was only introduced in 2007.

This young brand offers a nutritious, healthy, yet affordable diet for dogs and cats. The manufacturers primary goal is to mimic the diets of wild dogs and other canine ancestors.

For this reason, meats such as bison, wild boar, and deer are quite common in Taste of the Wild recipes compared to other pet foods.

The primary ingredient in all formulas is usually real meat. Although Diamond Pet Foods has black spots in its history, Taste of the Wild is a very reliable brand.

Taste Of The Wild Reviews Of The Grain

The company offers several series of products, namely Grain-Free, Ancient Grains, and Prey Limited Ingredient Recipe. Well be reviewing the first category, which is available in both wet and dry options

Some pet owners may choose grain-free products because of allergies to certain grains, but this choice has advantages for dogs in general. First of all, this line of products uses different ingredients to serve as protein sources, like real meat, fish, and fowl that help to keep animals healthy, improve the immune system, and result in a shiny coat, among other things. While getting the necessary protein percentage, your favorite beast will also enjoy the natural taste of his meals

To provide a richer taste and additional healthy elements, the Taste of the Wild grain free products have various vegetables, fruits, and legumes mixed in. Again, peas, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, blueberries, and similar ingredients help imitate the wildlife diet leading to a healthy lifestyle.

Taste Of The Wild Dry Dog Food Hi Prairie Canine Formula With Roasted Bison & Venison Review

Taste Of The Wild Wetlands Canine Roasted Fow l Dry Dog ...

In my opinion Taste of the Wild dog food ingredients in the High Prairie Canine Formula are a good match for an active adult dog with no health issues. The product contains 32% proteins , which is exactly what a lively pet needs. These proteins are enriched with chelated minerals, which makes them easier to absorb and takes care of dogs sight, claws and coat.

For me its also important mentioning in this Taste of the Wild dry dog food review, that despite lots of animal-derived ingredients, the product doesnt have a strong smell and is pleasant to use.

The Best Taste Of The Wild Flavors

Out of all the products that are made and sold by Taste of the Wild, I would highly recommend the Taste of the Wild Dry Dog Food Salmon Flavor.

It is made with real smoked Salmon, plus it has real, fresh fruits, and vegetables.

The grain free formula is very tasty and provides antioxidants to promote the health of your dog.

The recipe is good for all dog types, including dogs that have sensitive stomachs or those that have problems associated with food allergies.

Our other favorites are:

  • Wetlands Roasted Duck
  • What The Labelling Really Says

Taste of the Wild dog food has an emphasis on a primitive canine diet, and the high protein and fat content is testament to that. Based on the guaranteed analysis we can guesstimate around 30% carbs which is great to see for a dry dog food. Taste of the Wild really stands out compared to many other dog foods, especially against those you find in the supermarkets which are much less protein, much less fat, and much higher carbs .

We find three meat ingredients at the top of the list, a combo of bison, lamb meal, and chicken meal. This packs a punch, but were also told bison is 12% of the product. Its possible the first six ingredients are also 12%, making the food 24% potato , and 12% peas.

In addition to the top three meats we also find beef, venison, eggs, and fish meal, so this should really push the animal constituents in the food to above 50%. Thats really good.

The main carb source in the food is sweet potatoes, an excellent low GI option and a better alternative to many grains or even potatoes.

As a whole the ingredients feel balanced and there arent any nasties. Its preserved naturally rather than with chemicals. All in all it really stacks up as a good formula with high protein, high fat, low carbs. Recommended.

Taste Of The Wild Appalachian Valley Formula

    WHY YOU SHOULD BUY

Heres an ideal recipe for small breed dogs that lies not only in small kibble pieces that are easier to chew but also in the delicious and healthy meals it provides.

The Appalachian Valley bags are often picked up by pet owners for their large breed puppies, not only smaller breeds. Pups are sure to be satisfied with the taste which venison, ocean fish, duck and lamb meals contribute to. The high protein content is also achieved by including garbanzo beans and egg.

The said beans also have a positive effect on digestive health and provide minerals. Additional fiber comes from dried chicory root that also activates the probiotic bacteria. The probiotics are added to make sure the food comes with live cultures, about 80 million in each pound.

Canola oil is mostly responsible for the fat content in this Taste of the Wild small breed recipe and makes up about 18%. Moisture is kept at about 10%, which is a good number for dry food.

    KEY FEATURES:

    • Crude protein: no less than 32%
    • Crude fat: no less than 18%
    • Moisture: no more than 10%
    • Fiber: no more than 4%

    SPECIFICATIONS:

    • Pasture-raised venison as the key ingredient
    • Comes in sizes: 28/14/5 pounds

    WHAT WE LOVED:

    • A rich crude protein content provided by real meat
    • Kibble size is ideal for puppies and small dogs
    • Contains species-specific probiotics

    WHAT WE DIDNT LIKE:

    • Egg may be an allergen for some pets
    • The bag size was reduced from 30 to 28 lb.

    Merrick Limited Ingredient Diets

If you have a dog with a sensitive stomach or an allergy, the best thing you can do is buy food with limited ingredients for your dog. The less in such cases, the more. With this method, you can rule out potentially problematic sources of protein or carbohydrates.

According to the manufacturer, there are ten or fewer key ingredients in these recipes, plus added vitamins and minerals. A total of twelve recipes are included, 5 dry and 7 wet foods.

You can choose grain-free and non-grain-free options. The source of protein in each case is some real meat, fish, or poultry. Each of these products contains omega fatty acids for a healthy brain, skin, and coat.

Verdict: Is Taste Of The Wild A Good Dog Food Brand

One of the main draws of the brand is its use of novel proteins. Now, if youre a pet owner with a dog who has food sensitivities, a recipe using novel protein is one of the best ways to reduce allergic reactions.

The theory is that since these arent common, your dog likely wont have previous exposure to them, and it probably wont trigger an allergic reaction in him.

If youre not concerned about food sensitivities, but instead on the foods quality, well still give the brand two thumbs up. The first ingredient in any of their recipes is always good-quality animal protein, and there are lots of varieties and flavors to choose from for a dog whose palate is tired of the usual dog food fare.

Not only with flavors, theres also a wide range of choices when it comes to feeding your dog. You can select from wet and dry. If dry kibbles is your choice, you can also pick from recipes with grains and without or from a recipe with limited ingredients. There are meals designed for little puppies, all life stages, and small breeds.

Now if we will base our review on protein content, the brand is doing better than most with a protein content of up to 32% in their dry kibbles. Its no slouch when it comes to vitamins or mineral content because it uses whole superfoods in its various blends.
