What Were The Results

So after trying Ollie for a couple weeks, what were the results?

Many owners have testified to noticing a shinier coat, reduced itching due to allergies, improved energy and in some cases even some behavioral improvements, after switching to Ollies fresh food.

But what about me did I notice any kind of change in Remy? I did notice a few big changes worth noting:

1. Poop Improvements

One of the major things I noticed after switching Remy to Ollie was his poop! His poops got smaller, greener, and much less smelly all general indications of improved health.

2. Reduced Itching & Allergies

Another thing I didnt immediately notice until switching back to Remys old kibble was that Ollie definitely reduced Remys itching.

Remy has been an itchy boy for quite a while now, so Ive gotten pretty accustomed to his scratching and licking. When I switched Remy to Ollie, I didnt make any particular note or observations regarding his itchiness.

But, when switching off of Ollie and back to his original kibble, I quickly realized Remy was itching and scratching much more than he did before.

Since he went back on kibble, hes been licking his paws a lot more, indicating that he probably has some allergy issues that Ollie had been helping with. This means Ill probably end up making the switch back to Ollie at some point, or at the very least will experiment with other kinds of foods that can help Remster with his allergies.

Best Bites: Utica’s Dog

Bruce and Ollie are the owners dogs and namesake for the dog-friendly restaurant.

Bruce & Ollies is located inside of The Bickerman in Utica.

Inside of Bruce & Ollies sits a cozy fireplace.

Fall is unquestionably a roller coaster this year. Its shuffling from warm days to cool days, sunny days to rainy days.

Regardless, fall is my favorite season of all. Mother Nature never disappoints. I enjoy the cooler temperatures, falling leaves and shorter days. Im happy those pesky mosquitoes have disappeared. I only wish they would have taken the weeds from my garden that continue to grow.

Ive already started some wonderful fall recipes like soups, stews, roasted meats and any dessert that contains apple or pumpkin. I always look forward to restaurants that serve those delicious and creative fall entrées.

A day in Utica

Dave and I have had some hectic schedules lately. We were excited to have a day to ourselves, so we took the back roads to Utica, a charming, historic village not far from Starved Rock State Park.

We went to August Hill Winery, where we enjoyed wine and cheese on a hill near where they grow the grapes. Then it was off to the village to August Hills tasting room. We were able to choose some beautiful red wines for the upcoming holidays.

Since the beginning of COVID, businesses in downtown Utica have blocked off a street and set up dining tables for local restaurants.

How Do You Sign Up For Ollie

During sign-up, I was asked a series of questions about my dog’s age, weight, breed, activity level, and health, including whether he has any allergies.

I could select one, two, three, or all four of the recipes. For Jäger, who weighs 20 pounds, Ollie meal options ranged from about $27 to $31 per week, depending on which recipes I chose. I opted to try the beef, turkey, and lamb recipes.

After signing up, I received an immediate email confirmation. Ollie also sent me the estimated delivery date and a notification when it had been delivered. This was great because my box arrived when I was not at home.

Ollie Or The Farmers Dog Which Is Best

Both offer great quality dog meals and have rave reviews from happy customers. The main difference between them is that Ollie has a bit more variety to choose from. They offer 4 meal options and also 4 dog snacks, while The Farmers Dog has 3 recipes to choose from and no snacks yet.

In terms of the recipes themselves, some dog owners may prefer to have the option of a chicken and lamb recipe, in which case they would choose Ollie.

Others may be happy with a pork recipe, in which case The Farmers Dog would be the best choice. Both have turkey and beef recipes.

Ollies packaging is also a little more convenient as they provide a scoop for portioning out the food. They also offer a hard plastic tray for storing the leftovers in the fridge.

On the other hand The Farmers Dog offers more flexibility. They take into account a large number of health conditions and allergies your dog may have when planning their meals.

They also allow you to choose exactly how often you want your deliveries to arrive. And they can even deliver to holiday addresses within the US.

When looking at the protein content in their meals, both Ollie and The Farmers Dog offer between 9-11% minimum protein levels. So they are similar in this regard.

Since each provide quality, human-grade ingredients, meals formulated by veterinary nutritionists, customised to your dogs needs, and delivered to your door, I would recommend either one.

Whichever you try, I hope that they give you a healthier, happier dog.

Is There Anything Wrong With Regular Dog Food

Most domesticated dogs today eat kibble, which are little more than dehydrated pellets of meat, poultry, and seafood byproducts also known as meal. Poultry meal, beef meal, lamb meal, fish meal: these are terms applied to the low-quality proteins served up in kibble, containing mostly ground-up bones, organs, and raw, sometimes diseased or rancid animal flesh.

This protein meal is then supported by filler-foods, like various grains, corn, and soybean meal. Like humans with a gluten intolerance, many dogs suffer from skin and gastro-intestinal reactions due to grain allergies, especially from the highly-processed grains found in kibble.

However, the FDA has found that grain-free alternatives for dog food have also been linked to conditions such as Dilated Cardiomyopathy , also known as Canine Heart Disease. Grain-free alternatives may include peas, lentils, chickpeas, beans, potatoes and sweet potatoes.

The ingredients are together endlessly cooked at 280 degrees to remove 90% of the moisture, then blended, pressed, and sifted to remove excess hair and large bone chips. It is then packed with synthetic preservatives to further increase shelf-life, and then cut into the tiny pellets we recognize in our dogs bowl, essentially a dehydrated soup of meat, bone meal, and yellow, greasy fat.

Kibble may have high calorie and fat content, but is overall under-serving your dogs true nutritional needs.

The Downside Of Ollie Dog Food

Ollie Fresh Dog Food Review

Ollie dog food is what I would consider a pricey kibble. A 4 pound bag starts around $20 and a 24 pound bag will cost you about $64. While that price maybe in the ball park of other high end dog kibble, it does also require a subscription. A one time purchase will cost you around $85 a bag.

Another downside is they do not offer free shipping until you spend $50, which is easy to do when buying their dog food.
