Unfortunately, while Canidae has different puppy options, Canidae Dog Food Australia only carries one.
That means puppy owners only have access to their Puppy Grain-free chicken & sweet potato flavour or will have to feed them the All Life Stages food. While less-than-ideal, it isnt too bad since you do have access to both grain-free or whole-grain options .
However, we dont like that there are no other options based on your dogs size. As such, small and toy puppies will have to eat the same kibble as larger dogs. The lack of large-breed options is a concern with large and giant breeds since overfeeding or feeding a diet thats too calorie-dense can cause brittle bones and decalcification.
Of course, you can always portion control your pups intake, but this can be tiresome and you need vets advice. This isnt as much of an issue with puppy food targeted at large and giant breeds. If thats your case, we recommend a puppy food adapted to your particular dogs size.
Where Is Canidae Made
According to our research, Canidae pet foods are manufactured in the USA. However, ingredients are sourced from many different countries. Therefore, you will not find the phrase “Made In The USA” on Canidae pet food packaging. Legally, companies cannot use that language if ingredients are not exclusively sourced from the United States.
The Canidae website does not specifically mention whether or not any ingredients are sourced from China. Many premium pet food brands have cut all ties with suppliers from China after these suppliers sold melamine contaminated vegetable proteins in 2006 and 2007.
In 2012, Canidae opened its own manufacturing facility named Ethos Pet Nutrition. Today, many Canidae recipes are manufactured within this facility located in Brownwood, Texas. Unfortunately, Canidae still continues to outsource the production of many recipes even after opening the Texas facility.
In the past, most recipes were manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods. Today, it appears that Canidae continues to use Diamond and several other companies including Performance Pet Products and Hampshire Pet Products. We do not know which specific recipes are manufactured by each of these partner companies.
As far as we know, Canidae will continue to use third-party manufacturing partners in the foreseeable future.
