Registering For Charlies Pet Food Bank
Please register in person to pick up pet food or supplies . This helps us ensure pet food is available for everyone.
To register, we ask for:
If youre not able to provide one of these documents, please speak with a volunteer.
You can register at Charlies pet food bank on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Once registered you can visit Charlies weekly to receive pet food, litter, and other supplies. Registered members may also request specific items. This registration is for the pet food bank.
Homeward Pet Food Bank

The Homeward Pet Food Bank feeds homeless animals and helps families keep their beloved pet in their home by distributing pet food and supplies to families in need in our community through local food banks and outreach programs. Last year, the Homeward Pet Food Bank fed nearly 2000 animals in the shelter and distributed over 155,000 lbs. of pet food to area food banks, community organizations and partner rescues.
You can provide for homeless cats and dogsand help keep pets in their homesby making a donation of dog or cat food at Homeward Pet, or at any of the following locations:

Protocol When Picking Up Food From The Pet Food Pantry
- Pet Food Pantry pick-up is by appointment only.
- A one-gallon bag of dog or cat food per pet will be given to participants. Limit one participant per household for up three cats and/or dogs per household. .
- To ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers, social distancing will be observed and face coverings will be required of participants who will be picking up the pet food.
- Participants also agree to arrive within the designated one-hour time frame only of their appointment.
Participants must register and obtain an appointment in advance. Walk-ins will be placed at the end of the line and served that day if possible. They will be advised that going forward they must make an appointment or they will not be served.
Participants must live in Los Angeles City and provide name, address, or declare that they are homeless, telephone number and email address to obtain an appointment.
Participants must be the pet owner and provide the name, weight, sex and animal license number for pets when making an appointment. If the pet is unaltered, they will be given a FREE spay/neuter voucher and food and advised that the pet must be altered to continue receiving food.
Only one participant per household for up to three dogs and/or three cats .
Participants agree to arrive within the designated one-hour time frame only.
Participants arriving on foot or by bicycle must wear a face covering and maintain a 6ft. social distance when checking in with staff/volunteers.

Judith Caplan Phillips Pet Pantry Program
Michigan Humanes Judith Caplan Phillips Pet Pantry program assists thousands of families in need in the metro Detroit area. Thanks to our partners at Purina, Greater Good Rescue Bank and Forgotten Harvest, were able to provide dog and cat food at no charge to owned pets in an effort to keep animals in their current homes.
How to Donate Pet Food
The Judith Caplan Phillips Pet Pantry program is dependent on the generosity of the public and important sponsors. Bags and cans of dog or cat food can be donated at any of Michigan Humanes locations during regular adoption hours.
Unopened bags are preferred opened bags will be accepted as long as the food is in its original manufacturer packaging and includes the expiration date. Corporate, school, or community-based food drives are encouraged and greatly appreciated. For large donations, please call 1-866-MHUMANE to schedule a delivery.

The Pet Food Bank accepts donations of unopened, dry or wet dog and cat food. Donations can be dropped off at High Country Humane. Our shelter is open 7 days a week from 11 AM to 5 PM.
At any given time, there are over 200 individuals or families in our community who are registered with us to receive donations of food for their pet through the Pet Food Bank program. This program is intended for people who are unemployed, on state or government assistance, disability, or just need some extra help. If the only issue in keeping pets in their families is assistance with pet food, we are able to help with that.
This program is 100% supported through donations of pet food provided by private individuals and local retailers and is subject to the availability of donated food.
All brands of dry or canned dog, cat, puppy, or kitten food are gratefully accepted. We can also accept open bags of dry food as a donation.
If you are able to donate a bag or a few cans of pet food, know that it will go to help someone in our very own community.

Do you need our help?
In order to help keep pets in their homes when their families are struggling financially, pet food assistance is available through a monthly distribution. The Pet Food Pantry can provide a household with food for up to four spayed and neutered animals for up to six months. If your pet is not yet altered, we can also provide you with information on low-cost spay and neuter options.
This program is designed to assist you in caring for companion animals that have been in your household for 3 months or more. While a member of PFP, you agree not to add or replace your pet population by taking in more animals or allowing animals in your household to breed.
Within 3 months of joining the program, ALL pets in the household MUST be spayed or neutered. We offer reduced fee spaying and neutering through IHS Veterinary Medical Center for low-income individuals and families if you need assistance. Subsidized pricing for spay/neuter is $35 for a dog and $10 for a cat. Micro-chipping and vaccinations including rabies are also available for an additional fee through our IHS Veterinary Medical Center.

We provide support for veterinary treatment and life-saving surgeries, for people who qualify, thanks to our donors. Through Charlies Fund we cover all or, on occasion, most of the cost for veterinary services for people who:
- Live in supporting housing or a single room occupancy residence
- Are homeless and living in B.C.
- Require follow-up treatment recommended by our volunteer veterinarians at Charlies free vet clinic
- Have been recognized by one of our animal protection officers as someone who is experiencing hardship and requires financial assistance to provide medical care for your pet

How Do You Get Food
Pet food is available BY APPOINTMENT for individuals in need and can be picked up once monthly for a total of six months. Availability of food is based on donations to the shelter, so specific brands and types of food are not guaranteed.
First time visitors will receive a punch card that they must bring with them for each visit . Retuning visitors MUST bring their punch card. Charlies pet food bank provides free and low-cost pet services for people who are homeless, living outdoors, low-income and senior pet guardians in downtown Vancouver.
This community-based initiative was created to improve the lives of pets living in Vancouvers Downtown Eastside. Launched in 2000 by the BC SPCAs Chief Animal Health Officer at the time, Dr. Jamie Lawson, and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Charlies is named after a starving dog that came into our animal hospital in critical condition. Sadly, we werent able to save Charlie, and he passed away after three weeks of intensive care.
