Slow Cooker Dog Food Recipes

Introduction: Slow Cooker Dog Food

Chicken and Vegetable Stew Slow Cooker Dog Food Recipe

My dog has hit her golden years, and I started feeding her the “fresh” dog bologna in the tube to supplement her kibble diet, which was fine until supplies ran short in the lock down months. I started making fresh food for her, and found that it is comparably priced or — often! — cheaper than the ready-made food.

She changed in many ways almost immediately. Her skin allergies went away, she had more energy, and she was very excited at meal time and whenever I started cooking her weekly batch. I use a 2.5 quart slow cooker for my pup’s food, and it makes enough for a one-week supply. My steps will show how to best use this size cooker for seven 10 ounce servings.

This is a permutation of the recipe I make every week, but I swap out vegetables, fruits, and the protein I use every week based on what’s in season, what’s on sale, and what my pup seems to like. The basic ingredient ratio suggested by my vet is 40% protein, 50% vegetables/fruits, and 10% starch .

  • Large bowl for mixing
  • Frozen chicken tenders
  • 5-7 depending on size
  • Chopped spinach
  • Cut green beans
  • Cooked brown rice
  • You can cook this yourself or use the “heat and eat” version — either works

Using the slow cooker, you can throw in all your ingredients in the morning, then set it and forget it. You cant really overcook it either, since its fine if it gets a little mushy. Plus, its great knowing exactly what youre feeding your pups, where your ingredients come from, and which nutrients theyre getting.

World Cup Slow Cooker Chilli Dogs

HOMEMADE SLOW COOKER DOG FOOD RECIPE

Chilli dogs are the perfect party food and with the World Cup being on, theres no better time to make this slow cooker centrepiece. After cooking, simply set the slow cooker to warm and your guests can pick out their chilli dogs whenever they want throughout the match!

This recipe is split into a few simple steps. First, you need to prepare an easy beef chilli mix in the pan. We keep this part of the recipe really simple and dont add other ingredients you may expect to see in a chilli, such as red kidney beans or peppers. The reason for this is that we dont want to overload the hot dogs and make them difficult to eat. You could add extra ingredients if you want to, but just make sure to cut anything extra very small.

Second, you just need to add the chilli mix to hot dogs in the slow cooker. After a slow cook, the flavours will be incredible. And then finally, serve them up with the toppings of your choice. We add grated chese, red onion and parsley to some delicious brioche hot dog buns.

You could easily increase the quantity of this recipe if you want to we use a 3.5L slow cooker and theres plenty of spare room. You could probably triple up on the quantity if youre using a similar sized slow cooker and having a big party! This recipe is really economical, so you can feed a crowd on a budget.

If you could include an essential fatty acid that is ideal. You want to make sure it does include vitamins and minerals important for pets and seasonings are not necessary.

Remember, this shouldnt be all inclusive, rather a small addition or substitute for some of their bagged food.

Should You Flip Meat In A Slow Cooker

The answer to whether or not to flip meat in a slow cooker may seem easy, but there are a few important factors to consider before making the decision.

First, some people believe that flipping meat can cause it to cook too quickly, leading to less natural flavors and texture.

Additionally, it can be difficult to know exactly how long each item will cook in a slow cooker, so its important to check on them frequently.

Finally, if you do decide to flip meat in a slow cooker, make sure you have enough space for it and the pot large enough so that all the items are cooked evenly.

Benefits Of Slow Cookers And Crock Pots

Crockpot or slow cooker meals are easy to make and a great way to make multiple servings for the week. I love my crock pot because it makes my life easier! I just have a basic six-quart model by Crockpot that has served me well.

With a slow cooker, you simply cut up your ingredients, place them in the cooker with some water, and set the timer and the temperature. Some recipes need to be stirred occasionally once an hour or so. But most do well to just sit and simmer all day as you go about your other chores.

Layer Your Slow Cooker With Frozen Foods

Layer the sweet potato on the bottom since it takes the longest to cook.

Place the protein next. I have begun sitting the chicken tenders on their edges so that they fit more easily and because I find that they cook more evenly and are easier to shred.

Pour in the frozen vegetables and fruits. Reserve the fresh veggies and fruits for later on since they will cook a bit faster and the cook time difference will give your pup a variety of textures.

Set the slow cooker to low temperature and start cooking.
