Friskies Cat Food Recall

In June 2011, Purina voluntarily recalled its Friskies brand of cat foods for potential salmonella contamination on 870 bags. The featured product was their Grillers Blend dry cat food product and it is the only time it has been recalled. However, it has been on the wrong side of the FDA in other ways like in 2014 when the FDA wrote a letter after a checkup on the product was done.

The Friskies brand offers a wide range of wet or canned food options, but their wet foods line has a few products. Product lines for cat treats are also available in case you are interested. Friskies started as a Carnation Company brand that diversified to the pet food industry from evaporated milk production in the 1930s. It has 4 major product lines of cat foods.

Purina Beyond Cat Food Recall

Unlike other product lines of the brand that have had multiple recalls, Purina Beyond cat food has never been recalled even once. However, being made from the same facilities means that the brand can also be affected.

The Beyond cat food product line offers dry cat foods, wet cat foods as well as treats that are crafted with zero artificial flavors. They are also guarded by the Traceability Guarantee. These cat foods are only available as grain-free and have two categories including Beyond Indoor and Beyond Wild. This explains why the lineup is cherished with consistent positive client reviews.

Prevention Of Illness In Pets

As of 4 May, the FDA advised: If your pet food is not listed , the pet food is not affected by the recall and you can continue to feed it to your pets however, if your pet exhibits a sudden onset of symptoms including loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, stop feeding the pet food and contact your veterinarian.

The growing number of recalls has motivated at least one well-known animal protection organization, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to recommend until this crisis is resolved pets be fed products containing U. S.-sourced protein supplements only.

Has Beneful Dog Food Ever Been Recalled

Purina recall

Yes Beneful has been recalled once, in . The specific 10 oz. tubs of Beneful Prepared Meals and Beneful Chopped Blends wet dog food potentially didnt have enough vitamins and minerals. Nestlé Purina said it had discovered the problem during its own quality checks.

The recall announcement did not indicate if there had been any reports of illness as a result of the vitamin problem. The company noted that it was issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution for those dogs who may have eaten the affected product as their only meal for more than several weeks.

Purina One True Instinct With A Blend Of Real Turkey & Venison Dog Food

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY

Perfect for picky eaters and dogs without grain sensitivities, this protein-rich formula combines traditional kibble with meaty bits that dogs crave.

Like all Purina One True Instinct dog food recipes, this product relies on a high-quality animal protein source and a combination of healthy whole grains to supply starches and slow-release carbs. Venison is also on the ingredient list, though it could have been closer to the top to feature in the name. Soy flour and meal are the most controversial ingredients, so we recommend you consult the vet before opting for this food, especially before breeding.

The combination of classic kibble and meaty morsels is a blessing and a curse in one. Purina One Smartblend True Instinct Turkey & Venison dog food now comes with plenty of crumbs in some bags, and thats plain wasteful. Besides, picky eaters can skip the meaty bits altogether, which means they dont get the balanced nutrition they need. We had to keep a close eye on the bowls to make sure our pups ate everything.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Crude fat: 17% min
  • Crude fiber: 3% max
  • First 5 ingredients: Turkey, chicken meal, soy flour, beef fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols, whole grain wheat

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Weight: 15, 27.5, 36-lb bags

WHAT WE LOVED:

  • Turkey-first formula super-rich in animal protein
  • Meaty morsels mixed with regular kibble
  • A full complement of vitamins and minerals
  • Grain-inclusive recipe with whole grains

Dog Chow High Protein Beef In Savory Gravy

Some dogs need a higher than average amount of protein in their diet to help fuel their extra-active lifestyle, assist them in losing weight, or provide their high dosage needs due to lactation or gestation. Whatever the reason, this wet food range provides 40 grams of protein in every can of wet food.

The first ingredient in this beef recipe is water. Theres nothing strange about this as wet foods usually have water or broth as the first ingredient for the moisture content.

The second ingredient, however, is surprising. Its chicken, instead of beef. This means that chicken makes up the bulk of the recipe apart from water. So while a bit misleading, the inclusion of chicken is not something we can complain about. Its an excellent meat source thats full of protein and is a favorite among most canines.

Wheat gluten as the third ingredient is a bit controversial. While some argue that its an allergen, true gluten sensitivity in canines is rare. And if your pup was not allergic to gluten before, consumption of this ingredient will not make him develop an allergic reaction to it.

Were not against gluten because it is a good supportive protein source next to chicken and is highly digestible by the small intestine.

Purina Blue Buffalo Simply Nourish Dog Foods Have All Faced False Advertising Claims

Purina One Dog Food Small Bites

Class action lawsuits were also filed last year against dog food manufacturers Nestle Purina and Blue Buffalo over claims the companies falsely advertised the contents of their pet foods.

In September 2021, a group of three pet owners claimed Nestle Purina misrepresented some of its limited-ingredient dog foods as being free of grain and soy.

Pet owners argued the dog food products, which included Purina Pro Plan and Purina Beneful brands, actually contained wheat or soy despite the representations.

Blue Buffalo, meanwhile, was accused by a class of Canadian pet owners in April 2021 of falsely advertising that its pet foods are healthier than other brands.

Canadian pet owners argued there was no scientific basis to Blue Buffalos True Blue Promise, which states its pet foods contain no corn, poultry byproduct meal, wheat, soy or artificial preservatives, colors or flavors.

Simply Nourish was also accused of false marketing when, in March 2020, a pet owner claimed its pet food products were not actually natural as the company advertised.

The pet owner argued that, despite being labeled as natural, Simply Nourish pet food actually contains artificial ingredients, including folic acid and niacin, among other things.

Several of the claims against Simply Nourish were later dismissed in January 2021.
