At the time of the 2007 pet food recalls Del Monte was the second largest pet food concern but there have been several mergers and changes in other pet food companies since that time. In addition to Natures Recipe, Meow Mix, and Milk-Bone, Del Monte also makes Kibbles n Bits, Milos Kitchen, Pup-Peroni,Gravy Train, 9Lives, and other pet food brands which have been subject to recalls.
Natures Recipe in particular has a good reputation with their food and manufacturing practices. They have had one voluntary recall, in October 2012, of some treats due to the possibility of Salmonella. Otherwise they have never had any recalls even during the melamine crisis of 2007.

J.M Smuckers manufactures Natures Recipe within the companys extensive network of pet food factories. Other dog foods produced by Smuckers include Gravy Train and Natural Balance.

Legal Issues And Controversies
Natures Recipe experienced their most significant controversy in 1995, when sample testing revealed that some of their products contained dangerous mycotoxin levels.
Mycotoxin is a chemical naturally produced by fungus. Fungus can grow in the grains used in dog food recipes during wet and cold conditions. This toxin causes vomiting and appetite loss in animals and may result in death.
The brand voluntarily recalled over 7,000 tons of its pet foods, keeping the products out of pet stores for nearly two months. This event remains the largest recall of its kind, leading to millions of dollars in losses.
At the time of the recall, there were no incidences of pet deaths associated with the contaminated recipes. But later reports indicated that several owners claimed their dogs died after eating the affected food.
Although this recall caused significant concerns with pet owners, the company has only been subject to one other recall since it occurred.

Before we detail the recall history for Blue Buffalo, we first want to alert readers to the fact that, in late , the U.S. Food and Drug Administration identified Blue Buffalo as one of 16 pet food brands that may be linked to heart disease in dogs and cats.
None of those 16 brands have been recalled as part of the agencys ongoing investigation, though. Most, but not all, of the pet foods are grain-free and/or dry dog food formulations.

We also want to point out that despite rumors, there has been no so-called Blue Buffalo lead recall. A lawsuit filed in claimed that 3 Blue Buffalo dog foods contained very high levels of lead, but the lawsuit was dismissed by a judge in 2018.

Natures Menu compiled a Top 10 list of ingredients that the company advises all dogs should eat.
Topping the list was tripe, for its dental benefits as well as enzymes, and omega-3 and 6 fatty acids. Parsley was listed as a good source of antioxidants, chlorophyll and vitamins A, C and K. Brown rice is often found in dog food because it is rich in fiber and aids in digestion. The company said carrots are one of the richest sources of beta carotene and apples are rich in vitamin C.
Also on the list were blueberries and swede, which contains the same cancer protecting phytochemicals as cabbage and broccoli.
