What Is A Dog Food Recall
Recalls occur when issues or defects are discovered in a product that may jeopardize the health and safety of those consuming it. Once recalled, customers are requested to discontinue using the product in questions. There are two types of recalls:
Freshpet Fresh From The Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe
When it was recalled: June 18, 2022
Why it was recalled: Freshpet recalled 4.5-pound bags of the Fresh From The Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe for possible salmonella contamination. The good news is that Freshpet hadnt gotten any reports from customers about adverse reactions at the time of the recall.
The recall is only limited to food from a single lot. Your pups food is only affected if its got the UPC code 627975011673, the lot code 10/29/22 and the expiration date 10/29/22 L3.
Freshpet had been aware of the contamination and had planned to destroy the lot, but some of the affected food was accidentally sent to Walmarts in Alabama and Georgia, some Target locations and other retailers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.
A Quick Look At Lifes Abundance Dog Food
Heres a quick peek at the pros and cons of Lifes Abundance Dog food as a whole:
Calories: | 3,706 kcal/kg, 458 kcal/cup |
The All Life Stages recipe from Lifes Abundance is the brands most popular recipe because it is well suited for most dogs and can be offered throughout their life. The food features a protein-rich chicken meal as the first ingredient and has a healthy blend of whole grains for a dose of fiber. It also features guaranteed probiotics for additional digestive support.
There are no artificial colors or flavors in the recipe, which is a relief. It is also free from controversial ingredients such as wheat, corn, and corn or wheat glutens. The nutrient profile is above average in terms of typical dry food. The omega-3 fatty acids are great for skin and coat health and the formula is rich in vitamins C and E, which are essential for immunity.
Egg products can be a very healthy ingredient for dogs that do not suffer from egg-related allergies, however, the quality of the egg products in dog foods is difficult to determine. This food does contain natural flavors, which are highly controversial and not necessarily needed as an additive to dog foods. While the original source of natural flavors must be plant or animal material, they can be highly processed and may contain a lot of chemical additives.
As far as price goes, this food is slightly higher in cost per pound compared to other competitors that offer equal or better-quality foods.

The Manufacturing Process: How Pet Food Is Made

Dry FoodThe vast majority of dry food is made with a machine called an extruder. First, materials are blended in accordance with a recipe created with the help of computer programs that provide the nutrient content of each proposed ingredient.
For instance, corn gluten meal has more protein than wheat flour.Because the extruder needs a consistent amount of starch and low moisture to work properly, dry ingredients such as rendered meat-and-bone-meal, poultry by-product meal, grains, and flours predominate.
The dough is fed into the screws of an extruder. It is subjected to steam and high pressure as it is pushed through dies that determine the shape of the final product, much like the nozzles used in cake decorating.
As the hot, pressurized dough exits the extruder, it is cut by a set of rapidly whirling knives into tiny pieces. As the dough reaches normal air pressure, it expands or puffs into its final shape.
The food is allowed to dry, and then is usually sprayed with fat, digests, or other compounds to make it more palatable. When it is cooled, it can be bagged.
A few dog foods are baked at high temperatures rather than extruded. This produces a sheet of dense, crunchy material that is then broken into irregular chunks, much like crumbling crackers into soup.
It is relatively palatable without the sprayed-on fats and other enhancers needed on extruded dry food.

Nature’s Logic Canine Turkey Meal Feast
- Make: Nature’s Logic
- Name: Canine Turkey Meal Feast
- Specifics: Dry Dog Food
This is a food that I am very excited for my dog to try. Nature’s Logic uses whole ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and herbs instead of adding vitamins. They also use probiotics and digestive enzymes. This is another food that is designed for protein rotation, so you can switch between different flavors. All of the recipes I have seen are free from potatoes, peas, and legumes.

Rodrigo Is Allergic To Chicken
Rodrigo presented with food sensitivities during the first few years of his life. I turned to Dr. Google and convinced myself that my dog was allergic to chicken. Not a surprise, really, because the food and treats I purchased always had chicken as an ingredient. A sensitivity test confirmed that I should limit the chicken in my dogs’ diet.
I tried other dry dog food brands and cleaned Rodrigo’s paws daily, but this didn’t help. The paw licking finally stopped when I switched our dogs to a raw food diet.

We’ve also been receiving the questions…Is Life’s Abundance involved in the recall? Has Life’s Abundance ever had a recall? What does Life’s Abundance do to keep our pets safer? Here’s the information you are seeking and will help you when choosing a new dog or cat food for your precious loved one.
NO LIFES ABUNDANCE PET FOODS ARE INVOLVED IN THIS OR ANY RECALL. Life’s Abundance has been serving the pet community since 1999 and has NEVER had a recall. Since 2007 there have been hundreds of recalls and we are proud to say that Life’s Abundance is not one of them.
Current Information
The FDA has expanded its investigation of the presence of elevated levels of Vitamin D in dry dog foods, which can be toxic and cause serious health problems. Currently, there are eight brands and twelve different diets that have been recalled. After evaluating samples of several of these foods, the FDA found an alarming 70 times the intended amount of vitamin D. Although an essential nutrient for dogs, very high amounts of Vitamin D can cause serious health problems like kidney failure or death.

I Suck At Direct Marketing

I am TERRIBLE when it comes to Direct Marketing. I’ve tried several MLM opportunities over the years and failed because I don’t like sales. I don’t feel comfortable selling to my friends and family. It was difficult to market these businesses through my blog. And I quickly learned that direct marketing companies had gotten a bad rap over the years, so many people aren’t receptive, which was discouraging.
Check out the following podcasts and programs about MLMs:
I’m sure there are great MLMs out there, and there are people who ROCK at direct marketing. My experience with Life’s Abundance, Pawtree, and Young Living repeatedly taught me that I’m not a good fit for sales. I have tremendous respect for folks who are good at sales.

Life’s Abundance Dog And Cat Food
We have been representatives of Life’s Abundance for over 10 years. Our search to improve the overall health of our beloved dogs drove us to learn more about pet food, ingredients used in dog food and the manufacturing process as well as guidelines that control the pet food industry as a whole.
This journey started for us in 1990 when my own dogs began to suffer fromdiseases and maladies we had never experienced as dog owners. Being pet professionals as well, we also suffered along with each owner we worked with whose own beloved pets became sick or perished from what we considered unusual, or at least, unnecessary circumstances we were convinced were diet related.
Our research was eye-opening to be sure, devastating to our core and a true driving force behind what we do today and where our company has a primary focus: Canine nutrition, health and wellness! As professional dog trainers and behaviorists we understood decades ago that behavior and health go hand-in-hand.

All Life Stage Dog Food
All-life-stage dog food is popular, but its not always the best option. Think about it like this: You wouldnt feed an adult human the same thing a baby eats likewise, you wouldnt offer a senior the same thing someone in his/her thirties eats.
Its the same concept with animals. Puppies, adult dogs, and senior dogs all require different nutrition. Bodies change over time, and we have to make adjustments. We dont feel this is good for all life stages because of the high protein, high fat, and high caloric content. Not every dog needs that .
Reasons Why I Stopped Feeding Lifes Abundance Dog Food

Not long after I launched Keep the Tail Wagging I was introduced to Life’s Abundance pet food and saw it as a fantastic business that I could build from home. I was told that Life’s Abundance makes dog and cat food with the finest ingredients, and I was excited to feed their food to our pets and build a small business through my blog.
A year later, I was no longer a Life’s Abundance representative, and our dogs were enjoying a raw food diet. Quite often, someone will reach out to me to ask about my thoughts on Life’s Abundance and their products Spoiler Alert: I have no issues with the company. I chose to stop being a Life’s Abundance representative six or so months after I started for many reasons.
