Earthborn Holistic Venture Lid Smoked Turkey & Butternut Squash
Rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars
First 5 Ingredients: Turkey, Turkey Meal, Butternut Squash, Tapioca, Pumpkin
Earthborn Holistic Venture Limited Ingredient Smoked Turkey & Butternut Squash is a grain-free dry food formulated for the nutritional needs of dogs of all breeds, sizes, and life stages. This single-source protein food is ideal for dogs sensitive to proteins other than turkey.
This recipes main source of protein is real turkey. Turkey is a good alternative for dogs allergic to chicken. It is a lean and highly digestible protein source. Turkey meal is included as a supplementary source of protein. This high quality protein source is rendered so it actually has more protein content than fresh turkey.
In addition to the amino acids that help dogs build lean and strong muscles, turkey is also highly palatable. Many dogs enjoy turkey dinners which is a great alternative to chicken or the much fattier duck meat.
This limited-ingredient formula has no cheap fillers such as corn, wheat, or soy. Instead, it has butternut squash, tapioca, and pumpkin. Butternut squash is a good source of beta-carotene, which gets converted into vitamin A once absorbed by dogs bodies.
Vitamin A promotes healthy vision and skin. It is also known to support bone growth as well as the immune system. It is also an antioxidant that fights free radicals and helps slow down aging.

What Did Our Test Dog Think
To test Wild Earths dog food recipe, we ordered one of the small 4-pound bags. The order process was quick and easy, and our delivery arrived without any trouble. The package came in a standard cardboard box with the bag of dry food inside.
Archie happily munched away while we took a few pictures and then another face entered the frame one of our cats. Before long, there were two cats and Archie eating out of the bowl. Even the cat that refuses to eat anything other than cheap dry food was happy to eat as much as she could get. Our cats have shown interest in some brands of dog food before, but this was a new experience.
Overall, were not really sure what we think about Wild Earth. We understand the argument for clean protein and the science seems to support the use of yeast as long as its a complete protein, but we still prefer a meat-based diet. In terms of the products taste, however, Archie didnt seem to find any issue with it at all.
Earthborn Holistic Venture Roasted Lamb & Butternut Squash
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
First 5 Ingredients: Lamb, Butternut Squash, Pumpkin, Tapioca, Lamb Meal
This limited ingredient diet formula is a grain-free dry food formulated for the nutritional needs of dogs of all breeds and life stages except large breed puppies.
While it is called a limited ingredient diet, this recipe is actually dual protein, but has less plant-based ingredients compared to other Earthborn Holistic recipes. Its protein sources are lamb and Alaska pollock meal. It has no peas, potatoes, legumes, or poultry.
This Venture recipe has high-quality sources of amino acids, such as lamb, lamb meal, and Alaska pollock meal. Both lamb and fish are easy to digest and have flavors that are irresistible to dogs.
They are naturally rich in omega 3 fatty acids which help maintain healthy skin and coats in dogs. They also promote strong immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.
The main source of healthy fats in this recipe is sunflower oil. Sunflower oil is rich in omega 6 fatty acids that promote a healthy immune function, heart health, and normal organ function.
These essential fatty acids are involved in cell membrane structure and cell function. They are required for growth, as well as skin and coat health.
Butternut squash and pumpkin are delicious vegetables that are high in soluble and insoluble fiber. These superfoods improve digestion by helping food move along the digestive tract.

Is Wild Earth Really Worth The Cost
You shouldnt be surprised at this point to have us reiterate that high-quality dog food tends to be expensive. Better ingredients cost more, its just that simple. But is Wild Earth a high-quality dog food and is it worth the price they charge for it?
Its difficult for us to answer this question plainly. Were firm believers in feeding dogs a diet that is natural, nutritious, and digestible. Protein is the number-1 requirement for a high-quality diet for dogs and we generally prefer recipes that use real animal ingredients as the primary source of that protein. We wouldnt normally back a recipe that doesnt, but Wild Earth makes a strong argument for the use of yeast in their recipes. Because yeast is a complete protein that provides all the essential amino acids dogs need, we have a hard time arguing against it.
All that being said, we just dont know enough about the issue to make a firm decision one way or the other. Wild Earth does seem to be backed by science and the digestibility and nutrition of their recipes are backed both by AAFCO nutrient profiles and independent feeding trials.
When it comes down to whether Wild Earth is worth the cost, its really a question of the value of feeding your dog a premium dog food recipe.
Here are some additional benefits of feeding your dog premium dog food:
Is Vegan Dog Food Good For Dogs
Is a vegan diet good for a dog? Lets take a look at the evidence and what the experts say!
A recent study of 233 pet owners where the pets had eaten an exclusively vegan diet for at least six months to almost seven years reported that 38% of the pets had healthier and shinier coats after transitioning to vegan diets. Some animals, previously prone to scaly or oily coats, no longer showed signs of dermatological problems. And sixteen owners described improved odors of their pets. Some also noted increased stool volumes and improvement of stool consistency.
It is known that the most common food allergens in dogs are proteins, especially those derived from dairy products, beef, lamb, chicken, chicken eggs, soy, or gluten , all of which are typically found in meat-based dogs kibble. So, why is dog vegan food better? Experts at Cummings Veterinary Medical Center at Tufts University reportedplant-based diets are less commonto produce an allergic reaction than animal protein which is a big advantage over traditional dog food.
Furthermore, Lindsay Rubin, vice president of V-Dog , told USA Today, weve seen dogs live into their 20s on our formula, Rubin also goes on to lists the benefits of vegan pet food as being increased mobility, decreased allergies, better bowel movements, and excellent weight maintenance.

Tip : Dont Cancel Kibble
Kibble has a bad reputation for being full of fillers and devoid of nutrients. But a dog food should be judged by its formula, not its form. If you are buying kibble from a reputable company who has put more money into researching and developing their product rather than marketing, then you should be able to rest easy knowing you are feeding your pet a nutritious, completely appropriate diet to help them thrive, Dr. Finn says. Jinx, a kibble company backed by Alexis Ohanian, also employs veterinary nutritionists to design its formulas. Another option that meets Dr. Finns standards is Wild Earth, a high-protein DTC subscription kibble that was formulated by scientists and canine nutritionists. Wild Earth employs a full-time veterinary officer and is a member of the Association of American Feed Control Officials , a voluntary-membership association of local, state, and federal agencies that regulate the sale and distribution of animal foods.
Health Benefits Of Wild Earth Pet Food
Meat-free vegan dog food is still a new concept for most people. Pet food is known to be packed with meat as the protein source and vegan dog food seems like a far cry meat-based pet foods. The absence of meat is not only beneficial for your dog but for the planet as well. When you feed your dog meat-free dog food, you are also doing your part for the environment and animal cruelty.
When you eliminate junk ingredients from your dogs diet, you will notice a revitalized fur baby with more energy, one that doesnt suffer from allergic reactions, a dog that looks healthier with a shinier coat and one that is more closely aligned to its goal weight.

Tip : Human Grade Gets A Passing Grade
Unlike most labels in the world of dog food, the term human grade is actually regulated, Dr. Finn says. If you want to feed your pet human-grade foods it will be more expensive, but if your pet finds it palatable and really enjoys their meals, I think its worth the extra cost. And as always, Finn only recommends brands that employ a full-time veterinary nutritionist on their staff and are open and honest in answering your questions regarding research, manufacturing, and nutrient profile studies. We recommend the Farmers Dog, a DTC human-grade dog food that is backed by researchand one of the first to change the dog food game.

Wild Earth: Vegan Dog Food And Treats With Clean Protein
Wild Earth brings you the first vegan dog food in the market. It contains 31% meat-free protein to satisfy your pets nutritional requirements. The team that developed Wild Earth pet food states that since dogs are scavenging omnivores, they are able to digest protein from sources other than meat. So, Wild Earth vegan dog food is formulated to give your pets high levels of protein, omega fatty acids and digestible fibers from plant-based sources.
The key ingredient in Wild Earth foods is a protein derived from yeast. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and dogs have a biological requirement for ten of these. Rather than deriving them from meat, the team at Wild Earth Dog food derives them from yeast.
Yeast are said to be protein factories that are easy to scale and need fewer resources to produce. This substitution does away with the need for using meat from factory-farmed animals that have a detrimental impact on the environment.
A bag of this food gives you:
- Vegan Dog Food
- Made with Cruelty-free Ingredients and Testing process
- Sustainably sourced Ingredients
- Developed by a Team of Vets
- AAFCO Approved
Why Are So Many Dogs Allergic To Chicken
If the digestive system doesnt completely break down the proteins, the enterocytes see them as intruders and attack the body. An allergy to poultry is an over-reaction of your dogs immune system to an unwelcome protein, in this case, a poultry protein, that is present in a particular ingredient of their diet.

Earthborn Holistic Meadow Feast Natural dry dog food is a grain-free kibble specially formulated for adult dogs with sensitive skin and stomachs. It is suitable for all breeds and sizes. This recipe is grain, gluten, pea, and chicken meat protein free, making it ideal for very sensitive dogs.
At 24% protein, this grain-free food is not too high in protein but still provides more than enough amino acids to help dogs maintain lean and strong muscle mass. Its most plentiful ingredient is lamb meal, which is a high-quality concentrated source of protein.
Lamb is a good option for dogs allergic to chicken or beef proteins. It is also considered healthier as the animals are usually free-range, feed on pasture, and live in healthy environments. Their meat is rich in vitamins B12 and B3, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, as well as selenium and zinc.
Aside from the many health benefits lamb gives to dogs, it is also a very flavorful protein source, which makes this recipe highly palatable. The fat content of lamb helps enhance the flavor of the kibbles. Dried egg is also included in this recipe as an additional source of protein.
Instead of corn, wheat, or soy, this dog food has tapioca and sweet potato as sources of carbohydrates. They are both highly digestible complex carbs that are recommended for many sensitive stomachs.
Im Concerned About Dcm Have The Ingredients Been Tested
The FDA recently released an investigation into a potential link between dog food ingredients such as peas and lentils with Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The investigation concluded that there may be a link between dog diet and DCM.
But they also noted the connection is complex, and diet is likely not the only factor. There are more factors to consider, such as breed and metabolism.
The FDA is continuing to investigate, but they havent been able to determine a direct link between diet and DCM. Note that many dogs who are on a similar diet never develop DCM.
