I suppose you could heat your dogs Freshpet, but theres really no reason to. Freshpet is made to be refrigerated and fed to your dog cold, so I would avoid heating the dog food.If your Freshpet is frozen and you need to thaw it, its best to leave it in the fridge for a day or two and let it thaw out slowly. If youre really in a jam I would suggest putting it in a sealed bag then putting it in a pot of warm water to speed up the process.
Pedigree Complete Nutrition Adult Grilled Steak & Vegetable
This dog food is billed as providing complete nutrition for adult pups and even includes an optimal content of omega fatty acids for shiny hair.
It also proudly boasts that it is made of the finest ingredients. Looking closely at the label, however, we see a different story.
The first ingredient of the meal is ground whole grain corn. The third ingredient is also corn while the fifth is soybean meal.
So in the first five slots, you get three corn and legume ingredients, which means that this is not a meat-based dish at all. Here, the meat acts as support only and not the other way around, and there are too many grains.
The second thing we dont like about this recipe is that it uses unrecognizable animal ingredients. Were talking about the meat and bone meal.
Meat meals are usually okay provided that the animal the meat comes from is named. For example, chicken meal or lamb meal. But meat and bone meal? Which animal meat was used? Is there more than one kind of animal? And then, which parts?
Lastly, while the brand says that the recipe does not contain artificial flavors or sugar, it does contain artificial colors. There are four we could see, and theyre listed midway in the list, having more volume than the added nutrients the food contains.

Discussion Of The Primary Ingredients
The primary ingredients are all meats, like beef, beef liver, and beef broth. This sets the food out on a firm foundation of protein that they can then layer fruits and veggies on top of.
After the meats, we find carrots and peas, both of which are extremely nutritious.
Eggs are the next ingredient, and the one we have the biggest issue with. While theyre full of protein, many dogs have trouble digesting them, and we wish theyd swap them out for something gentler.
The last few foods are brown rice and rice bran, both of which are great for touchy stomachs.
All in all, its nice to see an ingredients list and actually recognize all the foods on it.

Freshpet Dog Food Recall History
As best we can tell, theres never been a recall of Freshpet foods. However, the company has only been around since 2006, so they havent had as many opportunities to screw up as other brands have.
Also, there were reports in 2015 of mold problems in some of their bagged pet foods, but a recall was never issued.
How Long Does Freshpet Last Before It Goes Bad
Freshpet products have a sell by date on them just like meat products youll find for humans. Once opened, Freshpet products should be used within a certain number of days and kept refrigerated. The number of days depends on specific products.For example, rolls last ~7 days whereas single-serve cups only 2 days. You should be able to find this information on the packaging.

Gentle Giants have produced a chicken-based dry budget dog food that is packed with vitamins and minerals. It uses twelve whole fruits and vegetables including beets, tomatoes, blueberries, cranberries, spinach, celery, and apples.
This means that your dog will not only be enjoying a flavor sensation, they will also be absorbing Vitamin A, Vitamin B 12, and Vitamin C from natural sources. These aim to foster good immune health in your dog. We are a little disappointed in this formula’s protein and fat content.
Containing only 22% protein, this food falls below the average amount in this price bracket. Still, this will adequately meet the nutritional needs of your dog and support their muscles and bones.
This formula has been designed for dog’s with sensitive stomachs, so it might be a good idea to try this if your pet is having digestive trouble with standard canine food.
Whilst, it isn’t really competitive with premium foods, Gentle Giants will be more than adequate for pet parents on a tight budget.
What Do Customers Think Of Freshpet Cat Food
Freshpet receives primarily positive reviews on its product listings, but things trend towards negativity once you look beyond Freshpets website and their retail partners.
While over 50% of Consumer Affairs reviewers are satisfied with the brand, unhappy customers share similar complaints. Freshpet is supposed to stay fresh for a week in the fridge, but many reviewers say they opened up the bag to find smelly or moldy Freshpet cat food. And as it turns out, Consumer Affairs is just the tip of the rotten Freshpet iceberg.
Similar reports appear on social media and discussion boards. After about half an hour of web browsing, I counted 88 customer reports of not-at-all-fresh Freshpet. Complaints include bloated bags, sour smells, moldy food, and pets getting sick after eating questionably-fresh food. Dozens more customers didnt say the product was spoiled but that their pets fell ill after eating Freshpet.
