Life Protection Chicken And Brown Rice Recipe Review
Life Protection is one of Blue Buffalos core ranges and includes grains ingredients but not Corn, Wheat, or Soy. The result of this is a number of recipes that focus on a meat ingredient and Brown Rice.
The formula referenced above can be thought of as the standard adult version of this recipe that uses Chicken.
Chicken, Chicken Meal, and Chicken Fat are all present in the recipe and provide an ample portion of animal protein and fat.
Brown Rice, Oatmeal, and Barley are the core grain ingredients and provide a mix of carbohydrates, plant-based protein, and fiber.
Small portions of Peas, Pea Protein, Pea Starch, and Potatoes can also be found in the formula, but they are far down the ingredient list. While normally we would be concerned by the presence of some of these ingredients, the portion size is not significant.

What I Didnt Like
It was a good deal of sticker shock to realize that a 25 pound bag of Blue Buffalo would cost me $2 a pound on average!
At the local pet store that I trusted, it was even more than that.
If I bought it online, Id still pay for shipping, which would be like buying it in the store anyway.
I also wasnt a huge fan of some of the ingredients that I saw.
The company says that they never start with chicken meal to make a food. Its a common filler that doesnt have much nutritional value.
At first I thought that meant they didnt use it at all, but it ended up being the second ingredient for some of their holistic blends.
Since the ingredient list begins with whats used the most, it was disheartening to see a filler as the second ingredient.
Especially for the price Id be paying for a bag.

Blue Buffalo Warnings & Lawsuits
Before we detail the recall history for Blue Buffalo, we first want to alert readers to the fact that, in late , the U.S. Food and Drug Administration identified Blue Buffalo as one of 16 pet food brands that may be linked to heart disease in dogs and cats.
None of those 16 brands have been recalled as part of the agencys ongoing investigation, though. Most, but not all, of the pet foods are grain-free and/or dry dog food formulations.
The FDA says this is a complex scientific issue that may involve multiple factors, and that it cannot even be certain that diet is a cause of the heart problems. For full details, see our article on the subject.
We also want to point out that despite rumors, there has been no so-called Blue Buffalo lead recall. A lawsuit filed in claimed that 3 Blue Buffalo dog foods contained very high levels of lead, but the lawsuit was dismissed by a judge in 2018.
The company had this to say in response to the lead lawsuit:
Blue Buffalo strongly denies these allegations, which represent the unsubstantiated claims of one person, and have not been supported by any evidence or data.
More recently, in , the brand once again came under fire when a customer in New York sued Blue Buffalo for allegedly making her dog overweight and diabetic. Plaintiff Shannon Walton said she had been moved to buy Blue Buffalo dog food because the formula was strongly marketed as being inspired by a wolf diet.
Health Problems Common In Pitbulls
Pitbulls are susceptible to health problems just like any other dog breed. What is important is to learn about them so that the food you give to them can prevent such problems from happening.
Here are some of the most common health problems you will find in pitbulls.
Allergies
Allergies are common in pitbulls, especially when they eat the food with allergens. Some of the symptoms that will make you know the pet has allergies include hair loss, skin issues, vomiting, sneezing, and more.
Having a proper diagnosis will help to understand what is causing the allergies. It is best to consult a vet when you start noticing such allergy symptoms.
Bloating
Bloats can be something fatal for pitbulls. The worst is when the stomach twists thus preventing gas from being released. When this condition is left untreated, it can lead to more complications and sometimes death.
Make sure to separate the meals so that the dog does not eat too much at the same time. Giving the dog two meals a day is enough to reduce bloating. Also, avoid food having corn and other cheap carbs.
Joint Problems
Joint problems are also common in pitbulls. So, make sure that you get the right food formula that can support having better joints in the pet. This will mostly include supplements and food rich in proteins.
Consider other medications from a vet to help in improving any joint problems that the pet might have as much as you are feeding it with high quality food.

Does Blue Buffalo Dog Food Have Leadin It
If you have a dog that seems to be anxious all the time and doesnt like to eat when you give it food or becomes clingy and snuggle with you when you are around, you may want to check your dogs food for lead.
It is best to find out as soon as possible if your dog has been exposed to any lead poisoning. Knowing this can help you stop the exposure.
What you need to do is to change your dogs normal dog food for an organic, GMO free dog food.
You also need to add herbs and green vegetables to your dogs diet. Also, make sure that you are using a good dog bedding like pongee.
However, even with this, your dog will probably continue to beanxious and clingy.
You will want to also increase the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables in your dogs diet.
Also, make sure that you are giving your dog plenty of water. If your dog is consuming too much, this can actually cause diarrhea in your dog. This may not be too fun for your dog and can cause discomfort for you.
Some people think that canned dog food does not have lead in it, but it can sometimes have lead in it.
Some canned foods will use a byproduct from the manufacturing process called-made-in-China food.
While this type of food is fine for your dog, it can containpesticide residues and BPA. In fact, some studies suggest that some of theseBIC foods actually contain higher levels of lead than traditional non-organiccanned foods.
Blue Buffalo Basics Puppy Formula Review
Our Rating 4.6/5 Stars
For some puppies, less is more.
Confused? Dont be! When it comes to a puppys delicate digestive system, some foods contain ingredients that arent ideal for gastrointestinal health. Limiting ingredients to only extremely digestible, gut friendly choices is often the better option for young dogs that have stomach sensitivities, and this is where Blue Buffalo Basics enters the picture.
- Packaging May Vary
- Contains One 24-Lb Bag Of Blue Basics Limited Ingredient Diet Puppy Dry Dog Food, Turkey & Potato
Using turkey, a more easily digestible and less commonly included protein sources, and gastro-friendly potato as a carbohydrate source, the Basics line still provides that great natural nutrition, but helps those pups with special tummy requirements too. Because many digestive sensitivities actually arise from problems with a puppys immature immune system, Basics also includes antioxidant-rich LifeSource Bits and gut-pleasing probiotics while completely leaving out potential reaction-causing ingredients like corn, eggs, wheat, soy and dairy.

Is Dog Food Made From Buffalo Meat
Your dog is an omnivore, but meat is unquestionably the most important part of his diet. Accordingly, good dog foods should feature a whole protein as the first listed ingredient. In this case, that ingredient should be bison meat. Good dog foods only contain properly identified meat-meals and byproducts.

Is Blue Buffalo Killing Dogs
No, as there hasnt been any report linking Blue Buffalo to the death of any dog. The only food linked to the death of over a dozen dogs is the Sportmix brand called dry kibble.
The FDA identified the cause of the poisoning to be aflatoxin, a corn molds byproduct known as aspergillus flavus. Midwestern Pets Food, Inc. recalled pet food, which came from one of the companys Oklahoma factories.
During the crisis, the FDA cautioned pet owners and urged them to discontinue feeding their canine friends with the recalled food. The incident caused the tragic death of over 70 dogs, though the actual figure was unconfirmed.
What are the symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning? Firstly, know that aflatoxin can cause the death of any dog, regardless of size. So, you must be extremely cautious and desist from feeding your dog with recalled dog foods like the Sportmix dry kibble or other contaminated foods.
One of the signs of aflatoxin poisoning is gastrointestinal issues. Your dog will be sluggish and probably experience jaundice. If the dog has jaundice, youll discover a yellowish tint to the dogs gums and eyes.
Blue Buffalo isnt killing dogs, and there has never been a time when such happened. But keep in mind that their recalled pet food can make your furry friend sick.

Blue Buffalo Dog Food Lawsuit: Everything You Should Know
You may have seen a very interesting statement by the U.S. Dog Food Association, Congress Should Not Allow Courts to Decide Whether Dog Food Companies are Under-Responsible.
In other words, if we are not under-responsive to our dogs, theyshould be allowed to sue for lack of quality?
Well that is interesting, isnt it?
Im sure you could see a flaw in that argument, but in truth, there would be a large flaw in that argument if the said organization said they dont care if they are selling pet food that is unsafe for our pets or food that will be poisoning them and/or other pets.
This type of hypocrisy is disturbing and as more individuals tobuy into the new pet food market and become aware of the dangers, it is goingto be quite challenging to continue such a position.
There are other lawsuits involving pet food that have already been filed and it appears to me that in this case, the dog food companies are going to have a hard time putting their name on the line and defend their actions.
Even if they were to win in court, is the person or company liable for the injuries and death that have occurred?
Or, can you sue for the minor problem when the dog ingested a deadly amount of poison or died because of improper feeding practices?
These types of questions should be answered by our legislators to protect not only our dogs but to protect ourselves and our families from the pet food industry.
