Important Considerations When Selecting A Diabetic Dog Food
There are a lot of high-fiber, low-fat foods on the market, but that doesnt mean theyre all good. In fact, several have very troubling traits that should cause you to look elsewhere.
Look for Products Manufactured in a Country with Rigorous Safety Protocols
Different countries have different food safety guidelines, and this is especially true of pet foods.
To increase your chances of providing your dog with a safe, adulterant-free food, try to pick one manufactured in one of the following countries:
Avoid Foods Listing a Carbohydrate as the First Ingredient
Dogs require meat-based diets to look, feel, and act their best, so you always want to use a food that lists a whole protein, such as deboned chicken or fish, as the first ingredient.
Carbohydrates are obviously important components of any dog food, but they should occur farther down the list. Remember, you are ideally looking for a food with a carbohydrate content below 25%.
Not all carbohydrates are created equally either. For example, while there is nothing particularly wrong with corn, it isnt the best carbohydrate for dog foods especially in the case of diabetic dogs. Instead, try to look for foods that utilize carbs like brown rice or bran.

Waiting For A Rollout
Industry observers said they are not sure if, or when, Wal-Mart might decide to roll out Neighborhood Markets more aggressively.
Obviously, Wal-Mart has struggled a bit with the format. But Ive got to believe its more a matter of trying to understand how the Neighborhood Market brand complements and competes with Wal-Mart supercenters and Sams Clubs, Green told SN.
Wal-Mart has pretty much decided on the size of the stores, but its still tweaking what it puts into them to understand what happens when it adds or removes stockkeeping units and how that affects sales at its other formats, to understand better how each one competes with and complements the others, rather than trying to fit in with existing competition because Wal-Mart knows it can beat anyone in the market on price.
It could be three to five years before Wal-Mart makes a big move with Neighborhood Markets, Green said, after the last wave of fill-ins with supercenters in the central U.S. occurs, he explained. Wal-Mart has a strong record with supercenters, and it wants to take the time to learn more about the Neighborhood Market concept before moving forward.
Bob Gorland, vice president for the Harrisburg, Pa., office of Matthew P. Casey & Associates, Clark, N.J. consultants specializing in supermarket site selection and feasibility studies said Wal-Mart is likely to continue to roll out Neighborhood Markets gradually for a few more years.

Is Walmart Neighborhood Market More Expensive
About a month ago our neighborhood got a Walmart Neighborhood Market, and the appeal of something closer, smaller, and perceivingly more inviting got me thinking. Is Walmart Neighborhood Market more expensive than regular Walmart?
As we made our first trip through the store on the first weekend it was open it was apparent lots of people in the community were drawn to the new store. A couple of things that stuck out about the new store were, it was half the distance to the regular Walmart. It was about 1/3 the size of a Super Walmart. It had a cozier and more homely feeling. Its location made it easier to get in and out for grabbing a few groceries that are needed to prepare dinner. However, I had a feeling that I was paying for the convenience. Much like you pay more for gas station/convenience stores.
I thought I wasnt the only one wondering this question, and thoughthmm, I could make this into a blog post. Because Id bet more people think theyre paying extra too. So this last week I set out for both stores with a list of 11 items, and visited both on the same day to compare prices. Here is what I found:
- Milk : $3.98 $3.98

Best For Puppies: Purina Puppy Chow Complete With Real Chicken
Puppies have different dietary needs from fully-grown dogs. Puppy food should be higher in calories than adult food to compensate for their higher energy levels and support tissue growth and development. Purina Puppy Chow is specifically formulated for puppies, with a recipe that supports strong bones and teeth while building muscle. The food is 27% protein, 12% fat, 5% fiber and 12% moisture. It includes all of the essential vitamins and minerals as well as DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that aids with brain development.
Customers call Purina Puppy Chow unbeatable, and say it provides the nutritional support their dogs need as they grow. Its also a fairly affordable option. At their vets recommendation, some owners also use it with older dogs who need some extra help reaching a healthy weight. Think of it as the dog equivalent of Ensure.

Glucose Monitor Lancets And Testing Strips
There are a number of different glucose monitors on the market, and they vary significantly in terms of price.
There are cheap models available for around $20, while some of the most expensive cost about $150 or so. You dont want to skimp where your dogs health is concerned, so you should probably expect to spend about $50 in most cases.
Lancets and test strips are disposable supplies that youll need to use with most glucose monitors.
Like syringes, they arent terribly expensive, but you will need to set aside money for them on a monthly basis. Typically, dog owners spend about $5 to $20 a month on these supplies.
If you are currently in the market for a glucose monitor, be sure to check out the AlphaTrak 2 Monitoring System Kit.
Designed specifically for cats and dogs, this kit comes with everything you need to get started, including the monitor, lancing device, 30 lancets, 25 testing strips, a carrying case, and two user guides.
Most owners whove tried it found it easy to use and effective. However, some owners complained about the cost of the test strips and lancets sold by the manufacturer of the AlphaTrak 2 kit.
Fortunately, there are more affordable alternatives available, such as this Test Strip and Lancet Kit, sold by Care Touch. These lancets and test strips will work with AlphaTrak and AlphaTrack 2 monitoring kits.
Picking A Good Doberman Dog Food: Feeding Your Dobie Darling
All dog breeds have somewhat similar nutritional requirements, but there are a few areas youll want to pay close attention to when picking your Dobermans food, including:
While these are blanket areas of concern across the breed, remember to choose a food that addresses your Dobermans unique needs, including any health issues and his activity level.
For example, a nutrient-dense, high-calorie food might work well with a hardworking police pupper, but that same food can pack the pounds on a couch potato Dobie. If youre stuck between two options, you can always ask your vet to weigh in as a tiebreaker.

Whole Foods Amazon Prime Discounts Dont Yet Add Up To Much
Like most grocery stores, Whole Foods uses loss leaderswidely advertised discounts on a small number of itemsto draw customers into stores . But theres a new twist: Amazon Prime members who provide their phone numbers at checkout automatically receive further discounts . Prime members get an extra 10 percent off items already on sale at Whole Foods, plus special Prime-only discounts on a handful of other weekly special items.
While these perks sound great, we found that so far they arent worth much. Compared to most other grocery stores, Whole Foods runs very few sales and offered only five Prime-only specials. Sometimes its Prime-only deals are designed to garner a lot of attention: For Valentines Day, it hyped that Prime members could buy two dozen roses for $19.99, instead of $24.99. But because Whole Foods and Amazon offer so few of these discounts, they wont save most shoppers much money.
Amazon likely isnt done making changes at Whole Foods. Well continue to check in.
Ingredients To Look For
While you are examining the label, there are certain things you will want to look for. Having these ingredients on the list is crucial to your dog’s overall health. You may also be told by your veterinarian to ensure there are certain foods included in their diet. The following list is the ones you will want in your dogs food.

Rachel Ray Nutrish Zero Grain Turkey & Potato Recipe Review
Rachel Ray Nutrish may be a more familiar dog food brand for some and has been available at Walmart and other large retailers for some time.
As the name gives away, the brand was created and is still associated with the famous celebrity chef, Rachel Ray.
However, just because it is associated with a celebrity, doesnt mean it should be dismissed, and they have an impressive range of recipes, appealing to several price points.
While many dog owners stick to their core recipes thanks to their low prices, we are a big fan of their Zero Grain recipes including the above Turkey recipe.
These Zero Grain recipes have the key combination of impressive ingredients and nutrition that every dog owner should be on the lookout for.
Specifically, the Turkey recipe includes a portion of whole Turkey and Chicken Meal which when combined provide an ample sum of 26% protein and 14% fat.
While not as impressive as others like Crave, this nutritional profile is satisfactory for the average dog that isnt overly active or has a high-calorie requirement.
In addition, while many low-cost grain-free recipes rely on vegetable by-products or other questionable ingredients, Nutrish utilizes a mix of Potatoes and Peas, along with smaller portions of Flaxseed and Beet Pulp.
A brand we couldnt miss when discussing Walmart is Pure Balance which is a Walmart exclusive brand that features on the shelves of stores nationwide.

Wellness Simple Natural Limited Ingredient Dry Dog Food
From the Simple line of dog food products, this formula lives up to its name, having noticeably fewer ingredients than many other Wellness offerings. This particular blend has just one source of protein, namely turkey. This may help for anyone trying to isolate an allergy, or simply eliminate red meat from the dogs diet.
Pay attention if your dog is a sensitive one:
The lack of gluten and grains of any kind should be of benefit to dogs with sensitive stomachs. Non-meat ingredients are also kept to a minimum there are no berries or fruits, save for tomato pomace. There seem to more than enough supplements to make up for their absence, however.
Owners may appreciate the variety of bag sizes, it being available in 4.5, 10.5, and 26 pound bags. It is marginally higher in calories than the CORE blend described above, but not enough to make weight gain a concern.
