Our Rating Of Diamond Dog Food
The Dog Food Advisor finds Diamond to be an above-average grain-inclusive kibble. Each recipe uses at least a moderate amount of named meat meal as its dominant source of animal protein thus earning the brand 4.5 stars. The Diamond Naturals formula gets 4.5 stars. Diamond wet earns 5 stars. Highly recommended.
Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete Chicken & Rice Adult Dog Food
This blend is for the most active and athletic dogs. Show dogs, hunting dogs, working dogs, and extremely active breeds can all benefit from the high protein and healthy fat content within this food.
Dogs that burn significant amounts of energy will benefit from the 32 percent protein content in each kibble, 91 percent of which comes from high-quality cuts of real chicken and egg whites. Healthy, plant-based protein sources, like chia seeds and quinoa, also help to increase the total protein content.
High-quality carbohydrate sources help fuel your active pooch during even the most strenuous activities. The food is fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, so your dog will be able to keep up with the demands of its day.
Since active dogs put significant strain on their joints, this blend is also fortified with glucosamine and chondroitin. These ingredients help to lubricate the joints, which can offer pain relief from arthritis, hip dysplasia, and spinal disc injuries. It also helps keep performance dogs in peak condition, as it aids with joint recovery between activities.
The food also contains the same superfood ingredients that you can expect from any Diamond Naturals formula, so your active dog will receive all of the essential antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals required to support an active lifestyle. It is also rich in live probiotics, which help your energetic dog absorb all of the nutrients from the food.

Diamond Naturals Recall History
Diamond Naturals food has been recalled several times over the years of the companys existence.
The first Diamond dog food recall happened in December 2005 and affected all dog and puppy recipes of the Diamond brand manufactured in the Gaston facility due to the possible aflatoxin contamination. This is a toxic mold by-product that attacks corn under certain conditions. A string of pet deaths and illnesses was linked to pet food produced in this manufacturing facility.
Another Diamond Naturals dog food recall took place in April/May 2012 and was related to the recipes produced in the same facility in Gaston. Actually, there were four sequential recalls that affected food produced by this company. Food samples manufactured by this plant were tested positive for salmonella, so Diamond, Diamond Naturals, and some other brands were recalled.
The last Diamond Naturals recall was connected with the kitten formula and was carried due to low thiamine level. So, one recipe was recalled in March 2013.
Best Quality For The Price
I have bought and fed my dog Diamond Naturals dog food ever since our bad experience with the Exceed food and she did wonderfully on the Diamond Naturals, we would switch between the Lamb and Rice formula and the Chicken and Rice formula. Her coat got a lot smoother and softer after we switched dog foods and she happy ate the food without encouragement. Although Diamond isn’t the best quality of dog food out there it’s higher quality then some of the foods on the market, and you can’t beat the price. I love the fact that there is no corn, wheat, or soy in the Naturals line of food, as a lot of dogs are now developing allergies to those ingredients. The only complaint I have is that I wish that the pieces of food were a bit larger to help a bit with tarter. Overall I would recommend this food to anyone who is looking for a better food for their dogs but can’t afford to buy the super premium dog foods.Quality of IngredientsGreat food no fillers like corn, wheat, or soy!

What Company Owns Diamond Dog Food
Diamond Dog Food is a family business that was founded in 1970 and has expanded ever since into one of the worlds largest pet food manufacturers.
This is owned by Schell & Kampeter Inc. the brainchild of brothers-in-law Gary Schell and Richard Kampeter who started the business in order to provide quality pet food at affordable prices.
The company, known as Diamond Pet Foods, is still family-owned and run with the same moral values in which it was founded.
Diamond is responsible for the manufacturing of the premium Taste of the Wild brand and a variety of other dog foods, such as the budget-friendly Costco Kirkland dog foods.
Diamond Naturals Adult Dog Lamb Meal & Rice Formula
This Lamb Meal & Rice Adult Dog Formula is considered one of the core products in the Diamond Naturals catalog. The primary ingredient is pasture-raised lamb, which acts as an outstanding source of protein. Given that lamb is a highly digestible animal protein, the canine digestive system is actually able to absorb the nutrients within the meat. This is really important, especially if you have an active breed, like a Jack Russell Terrier, Australian Shepherd, or Labrador Retriever.
Something we really like about this formula is the fact that Diamond Naturals infused it with their unique blend of K9 strain probiotics. This beneficial bacteria blend supports the dogs digestive system, helping it properly absorb nutrients from the food. Proprietary probiotics are also important for proper immune system function, which is incredibly important, especially given that dogs become more susceptible to illness and disease when they reach their adult and senior years.
Every pound of this Diamond Naturals dog food is guaranteed to provide 80,000,000 colony forming units of live, active probiotic cultures. In other words, eating this food can really help improve the overall strength of your dogs immune system. Maintaining healthy gut flora is just as important for dogs as it is for humans, so it is really impressive that the Diamond Pet Foods brand puts such an emphasis on it.

All of the Diamond Pet Foods manufacturing plants retain Safe Quality Food certification, which means they regularly pass third-party audits of every one of their facilities. To earn certification from the Safe Quality Food Institute, each manufacturing plant must have outstanding cleaning and sanitation standards, safe practices while handling and storing ingredients, as well as outstanding records and knowledgeable staff.
In addition to third-party certification, Diamond Pet Foods has its own strict safety and quality standards and adheres to stringent and scientifically advanced pet food safety protocols. They also conduct rigorous testing of raw ingredients, as well as their finished dog food formulas.
Their on-site dog food testing involves pre-production and post-production tests for nutritional quality, oxidation, mycotoxins, and much more. Each of its facilities also uses an advanced water purification system and a HEPA-filtered air treatment system, which prevents contamination of the ingredients and completed dog food.
As a final quality assurance measure, Diamond Pet Foods follows a strict Test and Hold System, meaning it tests over 56,000 finished bags of pet food for quality and nutritional content per month.

Which Types Of Dogs Is Diamond Naturals Grain
The grain-free version of Diamonds Natural line is a good option for dogs just switching over to a grain-free diet. Its relatively inexpensive and uses higher-quality ingredients than other dog food brands at the same price, so you wont have to worry about too many filler ingredients. Its also a good choice if your dog cant have poultry as well as grains, with salmon being the main source of protein.
Diamond Naturals Adult Small Breed Chicken & Rice Dry Dog Food
This particular blend was specifically designed to meet the dietary needs of adult small breed dogs. Smaller dogs tend to need fewer calories per serving, but they need a surprising amount of protein, as many of these breeds have high energy levels.
To find a balance between reduced calories and increased protein content, this formula uses lean cage-free chicken as the primary protein source but supplements it with other protein sources, like chia seeds and egg whites. This nutrient-rich blend helps smaller dogs sustain high energy levels, without contributing to unhealthy weight gain. This is important for small breeds with short legs, like Welsh Corgis, Dachshunds, and French Bulldogs, as obesity can result in serious back and joint issues.
The kibbles are smaller than what you find with other Diamond Naturals blends, making them more manageable for smaller dogs however, they still retain the same textured surface, as this is really important for maintaining good dental health. Many smaller breeds suffer from serious dental issues, so removing plaque and tartar during meals is extremely beneficial for your dogs oral and dental health.
As with the blends designed for larger breeds, this small breed formula is also packed with live proprietary probiotics, so your dogs digestive system will benefit. Added antioxidants are important for cardiovascular health, and they also help support the dogs immune system.

What Kind Of Dog Food Does Diamond Offer
The Diamond Pet Foods company offers three different brands of dog food Diamond, Diamond Naturals, and Diamond Naturals Grain-Free. Each of these brands provides a variety of product choices including dry dog food, wet dog food, and treats.
For the most part, Diamond pet food products consist of traditional kibbles and canned foods they dont currently offer any specialty products such as freeze-dried, frozen, or raw foods. What many customers like about Diamond Pet Foods as a whole is the variety and affordability of their products.
Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete
If you have a Lab like mine, this probably isnt the food you need! Packed with extra protein, extra fat, and extra calories, this blend is made for very active dogs who have the energy to burn it all off. Like the Large Breed formula, this stuff is supposed to encourage healthy bones and joints, which is great for a high impact athlete.
Again, all the high-quality, nutrient-rich fruits, berries, and veg are represented, as they are in all Naturals formulations. Sadly, salt, and some vaguely described ingredients are also present. Im fine with fish for dogs, Id just like to know what kind of fish it is.
Same as the previous two reviews, this blend only comes in the tiny 6 Ouncer, or 40 Pounds. Then again, your average high energy dog is probably only eating a couple of cups a day, so size may not be an issue.
- Did I mention salt?
- White rice and barley are both in the top 5 ingredients, and these are not quality grains

Diamond Naturals Large Breed Adult
If youve got a king-sized dog at home, you may be interested in this formulation for Large Breeds. This blend has less fat than Diamonds standard adult offerings, which should nicely compensate for an increased appetite. Additionally, there are special additives to support bone and joint health, as well as healthy skin and coat.
As with all the Naturals blends, there are plenty of nutritious foods to be found including coconut, kale, blueberries, spinach, and carrots. Regrettably, there is also the ubiquitous inclusion of salt and natural flavor.
As with the previous offering, you can only get this in a 6 Ounce pouch or a 40 Pound bag. Large Breed owners may have wished to see a larger bag for a larger appetite.
Best Dog Food For Huskies Buyer’s Guide
We’ve given you a lot of information, as well as the pros and cons of the various dog foods that are good for Huskies. So how do you decide which one to go with? With our buyer’s guide, we’ll provide you advice to make your selection easier.
Ingredients in Dog Food
One of the most significant considerations is the ingredients in dog food. All of these dog diets contain a combination of meat and plants . But what are the greatest ingredients for a dog?
Proteins from Meat in Dog Food
Meat is the most important ingredient for a dog because it contains more protein, which your dog requires to stay healthy. Most dogs should eat food with meat-based proteins as the first two to three components.
Meat-based proteins include elements derived from animals such as chicken, turkey, lamb, and fish. Deboned and whole meats are ideal.
However, there are meat by-products known as “meal” that are essentially formed from the skin and other portions of the animal that are not healthy for people to consume but are fine for dogs to eat.
Plant Substances in Dog Food
Plant-based components provide nutrients for dogs, but they are not the primary source of nutrition your dog need. Fiber, probiotics, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals are all provided by plant components.
These components promote digestive health as well as the health of your dog’s heart and other organs. They can also aid in the maintenance of your dog’s coat.
