Diamond Naturals Recall History
Diamond Naturals food has been recalled several times over the years of the companys existence.
The first Diamond dog food recall happened in December 2005 and affected all dog and puppy recipes of the Diamond brand manufactured in the Gaston facility due to the possible aflatoxin contamination. This is a toxic mold by-product that attacks corn under certain conditions. A string of pet deaths and illnesses was linked to pet food produced in this manufacturing facility.
Another Diamond Naturals dog food recall took place in April/May 2012 and was related to the recipes produced in the same facility in Gaston. Actually, there were four sequential recalls that affected food produced by this company. Food samples manufactured by this plant were tested positive for salmonella, so Diamond, Diamond Naturals, and some other brands were recalled.
The last Diamond Naturals recall was connected with the kitten formula and was carried due to low thiamine level. So, one recipe was recalled in March 2013.

If you have a Lab like mine, this probably isnt the food you need! Packed with extra protein, extra fat, and extra calories, this blend is made for very active dogs who have the energy to burn it all off. Like the Large Breed formula, this stuff is supposed to encourage healthy bones and joints, which is great for a high impact athlete.
Again, all the high-quality, nutrient-rich fruits, berries, and veg are represented, as they are in all Naturals formulations. Sadly, salt, and some vaguely described ingredients are also present. Im fine with fish for dogs, Id just like to know what kind of fish it is.
Same as the previous two reviews, this blend only comes in the tiny 6 Ouncer, or 40 Pounds. Then again, your average high energy dog is probably only eating a couple of cups a day, so size may not be an issue.

Additional Facilities Open Across the Country
In 1999, the company outgrew its Meta plant, and another plant was opened in Lathrop, California.
Then, in 2003, the company expanded again, this time opening a plant in Gaston, South Carolina.
In 2013, the town of Ripon, California, rejoiced when Diamond opened yet another plant in that community, bringing 75 additional jobs. Rather than build a brand-new plant from the ground up, Diamond purchased a defunct paper mill for $9 million and repurposed it.
That plant is located only 15 miles from the Lathrop, California, plant. With the Ripon plant, Diamond made an important investment in renewable energy, adding solar panels and LED lights, which burn the least energy of all light bulbs.
